Newlywed won't tolerate 'overt racism' by Louisiana official
... McKay spoke with Bardwell's wife to make arrangements for the ceremony.

"At the end of the conversation, she said that she had to ask me a question. She asked if this was an interracial marriage." When McKay replied yes, she was told, "Well, we don't do interracial weddings or marriages."

McKay said she was beyond shock. "We are used to the closet racism, but we're not going to tolerate that overt racism from an elected official" ...

"I just think that God puts you in the right positions at the right time in order to stand up to people who -- who choose to live their lives with hate," she said ...

1. A local Rabbi wouldn't marry me and my hubby because I'm not Jewish.
But she's not a gov't employee, like a Justice of the Peace.

Oh, and we found one Rabbi who would marry us and who eats bacon, too. (tee hee)

3. when I was a kid, women weren't allowed to BE rabbis!
so you would think this one would have a little more tolerance.

On the other hand, the rabbi who performed for the funerals of my mother and sister refused an invitation to our wedding (not to perform, but merely as a guest) because my wife isn't Jewish (Then again, according to a lot of Israeli organizations, neither am I -- except when they want money).

So, we had a friend of the family, who was ordained Universal Life, conduct the ceremony. And because he was Jewish, and looked it, none of my relatives gave it a thought.

2. People like that have a choice
Either give up their racism or give up public service.

They can't have it both ways.
