For continued undermining of democratic institutions, and the most dispicable use of the "Big Lie" and other disinformation techniques and the most effective use of government power to persecute political adversaries, ... the Hitler - Goebbels foundation awards the Human Toxic Waste award to.... gosh, so many to choose from it's hard to know who to pick.

1. The No-Bell War Prize: categories include: most fascist state, deadliest leader,
worst cases of pharmacy industry abuse (testing on children in Africa)

worst economic predictions and advice

most transparently awful/commerical literature (product placement in fiction)

I LOVE this idea!

Let's start the nomination process and equilvalent categories.

I've heard of the anti-Nobels (for unusual sceintific inventions etc) and the elitists Hasty Putting Worst Actor awards.

But a No-bell Prize for Fascism and War Mongering would be a useful tool in the effort to expose horrors here and globally

Worst Polluter Corporation.

Worst environmental record for a National leader

Caveat: Unfortunately the US, as many folks have noted, is the biggest and most brutal capitalist/fascist empire in history (aty least abroad) so we'd have to take our hits too.

But wouldn't it have been great to award the most evil fascist award to Dumbass Dubya one year, Cheney the next and Rummy the year after (or joint prizes)

with a load of bullshit as their prize delivered to their front doors?

I think DU should do this.

Seriously

7. I would nominate Karl Rove for his subversion of the democratic process in 2000..
Edited on Sun Oct-11-09 02:29 PM by JohnWxy
but I think he would have to share the award with Antonin "the Reign-maker" Scalia who stopped the election to select their favorite puppet so Cheney could reign supreme. All Rove's efforts with striking registered voters from rolls in Florida and intimidation of voters at polls in Florida, the inciting of a riot in the Dade County courthouse (which was successful in stopping a manual recount of votes in Dade county : see http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Brooks_Brothers_riot&oldid=312429322still">Brooks Brothers Riot), might not have flipped the results of the election. So without Scalia they might very well not have pulled off the Rape of Democracy in 2000.

The Brooks Brothers Riot. The demonstration was organized by Republican operatives, sometimes referred to as the "Brooks Brothers Brigade",<5> to oppose the recount of 10,750 ballots during the Florida recount. The canvassers decided to move the counting process to a smaller room and restrict media access to 25 feet away while they continued. When the operatives heard the recount would go forward, they decided to "shut it down".<3> The demonstration turned violent, and according to the NY Times, "several people were trampled, punched or kicked when protesters tried to rush the doors outside the office of the Miami-Dade supervisor of elections. Sheriff's deputies restored order." Within two hours after the riot died down, the canvassing board voted to shut down the count.<6>....(nobody was arrested__JW)
