I like the ambiguous note it finishes on though. What's that? We're still 13th in the overall competitiveness league table. My! My! That must be because we've been so brilliant at downsizing, getting rid of the "dead wood", getting lean and mean, eh? Closing high- street bank branches, etc. Aren't we special?

Seems we've been peddled cartloads of bull-sh*t about the dynamic contribution finance and the knowledge-based economy have been contributing to the nation and its workforce, too:
