US Still Paying Blackwater Millions - Outcry Grows From Veterans, Elected Officials

US Still Paying Blackwater Millions - Outcry Grows From Veterans, Elected Officials
By Jeremy Scahill | The Nation

Just days before two former Blackwater employees alleged in sworn statements filed in federal court that the company's owner, Erik Prince, "views himself as a Christian crusader tasked with eliminating Muslims and the Islamic faith from the globe," the Obama administration extended a contract with Blackwater for more than $20 million for "security services" in Iraq, according to federal contract data obtained by The Nation. The State Department contract is scheduled to run through September 3. In May, the State Department announced it was not renewing Blackwater's Iraq contract, and the Iraqi government has refused to issue the company an operating license.

"They are still there, but we are transitioning them out," a State Department official told The Nation. According to the State Department, the $20 million represents an increase on an aviation contract that predates the Obama administration.

Despite its scandal-plagued track record, Blackwater (which has rebranded itself as Xe) continues to have a presence in Iraq, trains Afghan forces on US contracts and provides government-funded training for military and law enforcement inside the United States. The company is also actively bidding on other government contracts, including in Afghanistan, where the number of private contractors is swelling. According to federal contracting records reviewed by The Nation, since President Barack Obama took office in January the State Department has contracted with Blackwater for more than $174 million in "security services" alone in Iraq and Afghanistan and tens of millions more in "aviation services."

1. Why transitioning them out?! Throw them the fuck out, now!
Stop giving oceans of money to the most despicable organizations in this country. That is Bush Cheney secret class warfare. End it.

2. Good finally someone post on this terrible situation. When I was
in college (a Christian one) my professor had lived under both the Nazi's and the USSR. We were discussing the idea of corporate sin - that is group sin. It is the idea that if we are not against them then we are implicated in their sin. This case is one of the best examples of that I have seen in a long time. Another is was illustrated in the movie "The Constant Gardener".

Bear with me here those of you who are atheists. I know you do not believe what I do but give me a chance to say it anyhow.

I have watched KO showing us the details of Eric Prince's crusade for the last three nights and I have gotten more upset with each revelation. In God's name this man has dared to bring me and all of us into the corporate sin his group is perpetrating. If ever there was a man who should stand at the Hague and be tried for war crimes this is it. He should be tried by the world not just by us.

He and his sin make me feel dirty and no amount of reasoning is going to make me feel better. I want my president to take these accused murderers out of the middle east NOW and keep them out until there is a verdict in the trials. They are doing more harm there than anyone. The blowback is going to be fierce.

Please President Obama place them on unpaid leave and get all of them out of the area just as happens when a policeman is suspected of a crime. This is one area where President Obama has to act from his faith. We the people want no more of this sinful action in our and God's name.
