Republican Senator Martinez Says He's Quitting.
Senator Mel Martinez, a native Cuban and a former chairman of the Republican Party, stunned supporters on Friday by abruptly announcing he is resigning from Congress "to get on with my life."

1. Has any clue surfaced yet as to WHY?
I am not buying "get on with my life/spend time with family."

Is he ill? Is there an affair? Is there a JOB he wants to take, but he needs the "distance" of time between leaving the Senate and taking a job in order to satisfy ethics regs? What is it?

2. maybe guilt is finally setting in.... one can hope/dream...
If the man has any conscience, watching what his great leader did to our country the past 8 years, while he cheer-led B*shy on for 4 of them, has to get to a person...

I hope he cries for the wrongs he's been a part of. I do not like this man. Mrs. Castor would have been a much better senator (of course), but we got MEL!

Wonder if Spray-Tan Charlie will announce he's going to the senate!

4. Spray Tan, it is said, will appoint a place-holder that will not run again.
He's looking to bring someone non-controversial into the mix to warm the seat, maybe an old retired guy who won't want to keep at it.

Spray Tan intends to run for the seat. This does kind of screw him over a bit...it makes the transition a bit less fluid, with a seventeen month "new player" in-between.

Spray Tan can't QUIT the governorship....imagine the fun the Democrats would have with that? GOP governors quit, don't they?

5. oh, how true, that would be funny if he quit the governership, ha...
Spray Tan is gonna have a battle on his hands, regardless. I think President Obama will come down for this seat - and hopefully the large minority base in this state will help win this seat for the Dems!

3. He was caught in a hot tub with Sarah Palin?
It would explain so much.
