President Obama: 'America will be safer when Guantanamo Bay is closed' with slideshow
Excerpt:

President Obama spoke today from the National Archives in Washington, standing before the United States Constitution on the issue of national security with a focus on closing Guantanamo Bay.

President Obama's promise to close Guantanamo Bay was an important campaign issue that many Americans agreed with. But in recent days, a certain amount of fear-mongering has taken place, partly due to the former vice-president's continued campaign of fear over the airwaves.

During the first vote on funding for the closure of Guantanamo Bay this week, the Congress voted 90-6 against the President's request for the finances necessary to close the detention center in Cuba.

President Obama assured Americans that his number one responsibility as President is to keep the nation safe. He said it was the first thing he thinks of when he wakes up in the morning and the last thing he thinks about when he goes to sleep at night.

The President made a smart case for closing Guantanamo Bay, saying that Gauantanamo has become a "symbol that helped al Qaeda recruit terrorists to its cause."
President Obama explained that Guantanamo Bay has made the U.S. less safe. "There is also no question that Guantanamo set back the moral authority that is America's strongest currency in the world."
