‘Idol’ admits singers lip-sync
A spokesperson for "American Idol" has admitted that the young singers lip-sync to their own pre-recorded tracks during group numbers, the New York Times reported Wednesday.

First-season runner-up Justin Guarini, who co-hosts "Idol Wrap" on the TV Guide Network, said last week that the group songs appeared to be taped, the Times reported. "Every single year we can't stand the group performances," Guarini said. "And I think what makes them even worse now is that they're lip-synched."

A spokesman for the show's producers first told the newspaper, "The Idols don't lip-sync, period."

1. Never watch it. Or Lost, Survivor, The Race, or any so called
reality shows. (Barf)

6. There is a lot of political theory in Lost.
The characters alone are named John Locke, Rousseau, and Hume.

Not that you would know that, being a pretentious (and ignorant) snob.

8. Um, Lost isn't a "reality show".
It's hard to care about your snide "critique" when you obviously have not taken the time to know what you're talking about before you speak.

17. American Idol is not a "reality show". It's a musical/vocal competition.

22. Amazing Race
While the rest are pretty much bad compost, this season of The Amazing Race is pretty good. First time I've watched it regularly, and only because of Mel and Mike White.

3. No wonder America doesn't believe in anything anymore - everyone lies out their eyeballs

And then folks wonder why THEY should be the good person at work, or return the wallet they found, or do the right thing. This trash 'supposed-reality' show reinforces how little sense of responsibility ANYone has any more in entertainment and the media. It's all about 'what can I get out of it, ratings/dollars/coverage, etc'

7. Well by gosh!! Britney Spears' Circus Tour is 100% lip-synched.
And people actually pay good $$$ to go listen to her canned crap. I have zero sympathy for such dumb masochists.

11. Yep practically all pop music is lip synched in concert...
And considering they record it in studio by singing one line at a time until they get it perfect and using pitch correction devices, I wouldn't call it singing at all.

All the more reason to truly respect real bands and musicians who write, perform and sing their own music. Now that takes talent.

American Idol is a contest to crown an idiot the next big thing in the dumpster that is pop music. So I suppose in preparation for that career, having them lip synch is good job training.

12. It's almost impossible to mike that many people without lavaliers
...which look fairly awkward on TV. It's also a mixing nightmare. For solo acts, they can stand near a monitor and hear themselves.

13. I'm shocked. Shocked, I tell you.
As if. What IS shocking is the almost desperate following these shows have. What is beyond annoying is hearing alleged adults discussing the merits or faults of the various performers/competitors; they've got the goods the same way sports writers know the stats of all the players on every team. But ask them a current events questions like, "So how well do you think Napolitano is dealing with the border issues?" and their faces go completely blank. "Who?" is the usual response, closely followed by "Huh?" And we wondered how in the hell Bush got in the White House. At least we were able to overcome the dimmitude last November.

16. And?
It's common place for a television performance. They sing it, it's not like they're trying to pass off other voices as their own.
