Alabama to get $3 billion in Economy Stimulus Recovery Funds

The state of Alabama will receive over $3 billion in stimulus funds from President Obama's American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act or ARRA, will provide 51,000 jobs in Alabama.

The $3 billion in stimulus funds directed toward Alabama will provide much needed funds to local governments, education programs, business, research and individuals. Governor Riley has set up an Alabama Federal Stimulus Initiative website and promises transparency in the way the funds will be spent in the state.

If you are out of work due to layoffs or for any reason, be sure to click on the link that reads, "business." There is help for dislocated workers that includes training, unemployment compensation help, and aid finding new employment.

Under the business link there are a number of incentive programs for businesses dealing in renewable energy including:
Innovative Technology Loan Guarantee Program
(National Appropriation: $6,000,000,000)

Description:

This program will provide loans for the development of proven renewable energy and energy transmission technologies. The funding provided for in this program will be limited to projects that can commence construction no later than September 30, 2010.

Fossil Energy Research and Development
(National Appropriation: $3,400,000,000)

Description: The stimulus package provides grants to local governments, universities, non-profits and businesses for carbon capture and sequestration demonstration projects.

There are a lot of programs available in the form of grants for Alabama individuals and businesses. You should apply for the grants that you are eligible for. You may be able to get free weatherization improvements for your home for example.
