Meghan McCain takes on Ann Coulter, Laura Ingraham responds
Edited on Tue Mar-17-09 05:42 PM by BirminghamExaminer
Excerpt:

If McCain thought her blog post and appearance on the Rachel Maddow show would generate a fight with Ann Coulter, she must have been surprised when it was radio show host Laura Ingraham who attacked the young Republican by insulting her body type, intimating that she can't get a real job because she has a 'plus-size' body.

There is little that Ingraham could have done to promote McCain's popularity among young women who are tired of trying to live up to the near anorexic female body type that is so pervasive in the media. McCain's twitter page has been filled with support from a growing number of young fans.

Meghan McCain is a lightweight when it comes to political savvy but she is a rare young voice in the party that is calling for the GOP to move away from its entrenchment in extreme conservative right wing ideology.

Ingraham called McCain a "useful idiot" who is being used by the 'liberal' media.

While it's been fun watching GOP pundits eat each other alive, Michael Steele vs. Rush Limbaugh, Dick Cheney vs. Dick Cheney, Michael Steele vs. everybody else in the GOP, and so on, picking on Meghan McCain is sort of like making a snarling attack on Bambi. I wouldn't recommend it.

There are few moderate Republicans left and they are all but in exile from their party and though Meghan McCain is young and more 'all about dating in the 21st century' than she is 'We're the GOP, and this is what we need to do to change', the recent coverage of her battles with the female bastions of the conservative movement is lending support finally, to the radical idea that the GOP could actually leave the 20th century behind at last and start looking for a fresh start.

You can read the rest of the article here and see the interview on the Rachel Maddow show as well.

1. Wonder if Meghan still "loves the Republican party so much," as she said...
...on Rachel Maddow's show ~ hopefully, it won't take her long to get it.

2. And her asshole father won't even stick up for her
Slimy POS!

McCain Refuses To Condemn Ingraham’s Attacks On His Daughter
Last week, ThinkProgress reported that hate radio host Laura Ingraham responded to Meghan McCain’s criticism of right-wingers like Ann Coulter by calling her “plus-sized.” Meghan shot back, telling Ingraham, “stop talking about my body.” Yesterday, Meghan ripped Ingraham on The View, saying, “Kiss my fat ass!”

Today, in his “Twitterview” with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) shied away from condemning Ingraham’s gratuitous attacks on his daughter. Stephanopoulos asked McCain, “What do you think of Meghan’s feud with Coulter and Ingraham?” McCain first said, “I’m proud of my daughter and she has a right to her opinions.” When asked if he agrees with his daughter, McCain did not say, simply stating, “like any family we agree on some things and disagree on others”:

3. That's just not acceptable
In my opinion, anyway. But what can we expect from a man who called his wife a nasty name in front of reporters?

You're absolutely right about him being a slimy POS. His daughter deserves so much better. I may disagree with her politics, but I respect her for coming out against the bastions of the GOP, including her idiot father.

4. John McCain is a douche bag
for many things, that much is obvious. Can you imagine growing up in that household? Sheesh. There's hope for the girl yet. I grew up with a father who was a John Bircher and I'm a liberal so hey....there's hope for Meghan.

To be honest, I didn't really care too much about her one way or the other but confess that when she got picked on for her looks, I was outraged enough to care about it. I think there are a lot of women who are tired of being held up to some sort of anorexic model image and compared.

6. I was mad about the attack on her looks, too
I mean, come on. In this day and age, is it really appropriate to criticize someone because of their looks?

Ann and Laura may be thin, but they are ugly, and Meghan can diet. :D

9. I personally think Meghan McCain is attractive
but honestly that shouldnt even matter. The fact that her father refused to stick up for her only reinforces what happened in the campaign. John McCain is scared shitless to go up against the party line no matter who he thinks is towing it. The last thing Papa McCain wants people to think is that he is a "fake republican" or not republican enough. We saw his radical shift from things he has said in the past to his party line politics that most people saw right through both Democrats and republicans.

...and yet we're the "hateful" and "divisive" ones with no moral values, eh? We're the "losers" and "flip-floppers" &c, &c?

Honestly...they sink lower every day.
