Why did Cheney say what he said the other day?

Money

The "security industry" has grown to $200 Billion a year. It didn't exist anywhere near that level on September 10, 2001.

Yes, his comments served two other purposes
-talking point fodder for the right
-clean the slate, no longer his fault (after two weeks off the job)
he has never cared for image crafting for himself and legacy making is a waste of time for him

No, what he did was "Hey don't forget about me!!" not that he needed to. The people, the top executive level, know full well that Dick created their positions and they know full well that he still gets a partially watered down (we are told) daily intelligence briefing. He will be an elder statesman whose opinion and advise will be sought. People will sit at his feet. All of this ....at a price.

Cheney will most assuredly set up a consulting business or an "advisory group" and draw top dollar. We may not hear much about it nor do we need to. This is for the "adults" you see. We don't need to know about that sort of thing but it will go on. Kissinger still makes a rather large income advising, coupling like parties, maneuvering for clients and potential clients-Cheney is just doing the same.

It was a bit odd for him to call attention to himself when anyone whom could possibly pay his fee is NOT reading Politico.
