What Happened to the Antiwar Movement? (MSNBC Online)
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4546739/

"Despite months of antiwar demonstrations in the United States and overseas, the U.S.-led invasion took place — and the occupation continues. Yet many antiwar organizations are still going strong even as the agenda has shifted.

"Organizers say they were validated by the failure to find weapons of mass destruction and the revelations about the dubious evidence used to justify the invasion of Iraq."

The headline pisses me off. Where is the headline reading "What Happened to the Weapons of Mass Destruction"?

Also, don't miss you change to vote a second time on the MSNBC poll. It apparently doesn't treat views of the poll control on different pages against prior votes

Global anti-war events everywhere. See the DU activist forum for info. Here's just one in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles March and Rally
This Saturday
March 20, 12 noon
Hollywood & Vine

Global day of action
on the first anniversary of the
U.S. bombing and invasion of Iraq
Bring the troops home now!
End colonial occupation
from Iraq to Palestine and everywhere!
Money for jobs, health care, housing & education
not for war & occupation!

Speakers include Ron Kovic and Fernando Suarez, as well as Radical Teen Cheer. There will be an opening rally at the assembly point, as well as after the march, with speakers and music by 6-7 bands.

8. does anyone know what the wounded tally is?
I thought I heard Amy Goodman say 21,000 this morning. I think I'll include that figure on my sign too but want to confirm it first.

but this week the numbers of both dead and wounded seem to change by the hour. Very sad.

13. Alas, truthseeker1, I shouldn't have used "we"
as I've been informed that my son's basketball game takes precedence. There will only be six kids (if they all make it) for their 3rd grade team.

I was out in February last year, so I'll have to just fire off another letter to Jack Zaleski of The Forum instead.

Edited on Fri Mar-19-04 03:38 PM by WillyT
Maybe the protests in every city should go by their local NBC affiliates and give 'em a shout, no???

Hell, in NYC, they could all amass outside of NBC Headquarters amd scare the shit out of them, or al least say "hi", LOL!!!

On edit: spulling

9. We usually go by the CNN building here in LA
it's right on Sunset and it's on the parade route tomorrow too, so I'm sure we will pause there for a few minutes and shout some CNN-specific messages. I wish we were going by Fox and NBC though. CNN is the lesser of the evils....

19. Yep, if the cameras won't come to the demonstrations
Then maybe the demonstrations should go to the cameras?

There are a bunch of live AM shows in NYC. People should show up every day with anti Bu$h signs.

Another option, is for folks to do their own video tapes of the demonstrations and then send them to all the people in the media. If they get enough free tape, some of them will run it.

They call themselves interactive, yet I do not see an easy-to-click link that allows readers to actually GET interactive.. They need to be told about misleading headlines.. I e-mailed them, but they do not make it easy..

22. so what?
One can object to one war without objecting to all wars. One can think that defensive wars are just, and that offensive wars are injust. And one can make up one's own mind as to which are which.

17. Too many people fell for the "you break it, you bought it" line.
Of course, adopting this argument ignores the fact that we have no right to 'buy' Iraq.

Some people - otherwise wonderful, progressive people - would rather let this turn into another Vietnam than get the U.N. in and the U.S. out. It's appalling, and so utterly naive and incognizant of history.

We'll leave Iraq one day - either by choice, or by force. But it will never be after 'winning the peace'. That is a dangerous, selfish fantasy that will never come true, no matter how hard some wish for it to.

20. I'm into the peace within humanity,...not fantasy,...
,...and although I appreciate what you say, I cannot accept that we will leave Iraq ONLY by choice or force. I have never witnessed life or humanity operate upon such distinct terms, and I say this as a person who could never be accused of pure selfish fantasies. The human spirit is persistent notwithstanding the pains associated with the process of evolving. That's just the way it is,...it is difficult and challenging.
