The Supreme Court plans to meet Friday to decide whether to hear a case that could determine whether President-elect Barack Obama ever becomes the nation's president.

Justice Clarence Thomas picked up the petition to hear New Jersey attorney Leo Donofrio's lawsuit after it was denied by Justice David H. Souter. Justice Thomas referred it to the full court, which decided to distribute the case for the judges' conference

6. I finally broke down and looked up the law they've been screeching about

The one that says a child born to a citizen and a non-citizen is a citizen if the citizen parent has lived in the US as a citizen for at least ten years, five of which must have been after the parent was 16 years old. Since Obama's mother was only 18 when he was born I thought that was their argument. But in reading the law this is only talking about children who are born OUTSIDE the US.

I really don't see any valid reason that Obama's parents and grandparents would enter into a conspiracy to conceal his birthplace. I'm sure the possibility of him growing up to become president of the US didn't even enter their minds, so what would be the value of trying to say he was born somehwere else. Maya was born in Indonesia and they had no problem with that, didn't try to fool the record keepers into thinking she was born in Hawaii.

The thing that keeps this going, other than the blind ignorance of those pushing it, is that a completely contemporaneous document has not been made public. I assume Obama has some reason for not making an original document public. At first I thought maybe it listed his parents as unmarried and he didn't want to throw that up for public discourse, but I've since read evidence that they were married in Hilo five months before he was born (and he makes no secret of this).

Now I wonder if perhaps the original 1961 document might list religion, and perhaps Obama Sr. had "Muslim" put on the document. If that were thrown on the world stage it would put President Obama in the awkward situation of "renoucning" a religion he never himself embraced, simply because there was such a caterwaul for him to proclaim himself a Christian during the election. This could be seen as an insult by Muslims, and especially the radical branches. It's just a guess on my part, but the possibility of backing him in a corner could be what is really at the root of this ridiculous movement.

I was an atty for 30 years. I would advise him not to. Why? Two reasons:

1- This causes the enemy (and make no mistake YOU are the enemy) to burn up time and resources. It worked and worked well. It causes you to keep your eye off the ball AND makes you look like the lunatics you are;

2- The enemy wouldn't stop here. They would call the long form a forger and continue with their lawsuits and, once emboldened, would bring many many many more lawsuits on other issues. To produce more than he has would also encourage others to file lawsuits.

ANY lawyer with a brain knows that what you do is to fight the issue on the grounds of standing.

Obviously, you don't qualify.

First they wanted an "original" birth certificate. Then a "certified" birth certificate. Now it's a "long form" (sic) birth certificate. I haven't seen my "original" birth certificate since I was a child. On the two occasions I've needed one, I've gone to the health department who looked up my birth on microfiche records and printed out a new "copy" certified with the current date. I doubt if any state record offices, except in the Old South where birth records seem to be REALLY important, keeps originals around.

This is nothing more than a vote on whether or not to grant Cert in this case. ALL of the judges would have put this on for vote. It means NOTHING as far as the merits of the case. The SOLE issue is standing. Even if they do grant Cert it is ONLY on the issue of standing. That wouldn't be decided until next year. (I've argued before SCOTUS several times).

Let's suppose they then decide that there is standing. The merits of the case would go back to the District Court for adjudication and that would take YEARS.

What is great about all of this? It keeps those moron Freepers occupied. Look how ignorantly rabid they get:
