Joint Statement from Maggie Williams and David Axelrod, 8/25/08

8/25/2008
Joint Statement from Maggie Williams, Senior Advisor to Senator Clinton and David Axelrod, Senior Strategist to Senator Obama

The following is a joint statement from Maggie Williams, Senior Advisor to Senator Clinton and David Axelrod, Senior Strategist to Senator Obama in response to the false story that appeared last night online on politico.com.

"We understand that some in the news media are more interested in reporting the rumor of controversy than the fact of unity. The fact is that our teams are working closely to ensure a successful convention and will continue to do so. Senator and President Clinton fully support the Obama/Biden ticket and look forward to addressing the convention and the nation on the urgency of victory this Fall. Anyone saying anything else doesn't know what they're talking about. Period."

That she refuses to tell her supporters she has no intention of running in 2012 if Obama loses tells me all I need to know about her intentions.

4. The GOP thanks you for your assistance.
Hold onto that anger! You won't "forgive" Hillary until she accedes to your every demand, smears herself with shit, and wanders the earth until she is purged from sin! Your needs must be met!

Obama and Clinton camps fire back at discord rumors 1 hour, 38 minutes ago

DENVER , Colorado (AFP) - Top aides to Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton Monday aggressively sought to squelch reports of discord between the Democratic giants emerging from the party nominating convention.

The two camps issued a strongly worded statement after the Politico website reported that "sniping" was going on between them, partly over former president Bill Clinton's speech to the party jamboree set for Wednesday.

Republicans backing their party nominee John McCain meanwhile again picked at the scars of the marathon nominating contest between the former first lady and Obama.

"We understand that some in the news media are more interested in reporting the rumor of controversy than the fact of unity," Obama's top strategist David Axelrod and senior Clinton aide Maggie Williams said in a joint statement.

"The fact is that our teams are working closely to ensure a successful convention and will continue to do so," they said.

6. glad the statement is getting out there.
I am so sick of the concern trolling crap.

The GOP is genuinely divided over issues that aren't going away, so they try to project it onto the Democrats, who are obviously united on policy so "Let's see, what about if we say that they don't like each other, just like middle school? Yeah, that's the ticket!"

Aside from the teeny GOPPUMAtroll contingent, no more relevant than the diehard Naderites or anyone else who doesn't understand the practicalities of the two-party system, we are as unified as ever, and we are going to kick ass in Nov.

We should start a fundraising/GOTV campaign--pledge to register one voter or secure one $25 donation for every time you witness an article, news segment, or editorial with right-wingers and corporate hacks expressing alarm and concern about the Democratic candidates' prospects.

5. I do NOT understand that comment. Why wouldn't Hillary run in 2012
if Obama loses? Naturally she will not if he wins. Do you think that if Hillary were the nominee, Obama would refuse to run in 2012 if she were a loser in 08? Of course not. Would you want him to? Of course not. Let's win this election and start by ending the Clinton-bashing. Hillary has been out with great enthusiasm speaking for Obama, more so than any other democrat. So leave her alone.
