Dowd: The Monster Mash
-----

After losing Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island and his mojo, and getting whipsawed around by Hillary and his own chuckleheaded coterie of advisers, he will now have to come to grips with something he has always skittered away from: You cant be elected president unless you prove youre tough.

Hillarys undeniably tough, as even admiring conservatives admit. The Wall Street Journal op-ed page dubbed her Ma Barker, saying she had tapped into the angst of blue-collar women who know they have to ignore their moping men and suck it up and hold the house together.

Ma Clinton knows where Obambis soft spots are; she knows he likes being petted on his pedestal, that hes unnerved by her, and that he can never fully accept how shameless she is. What could be more shameless than suggesting to Democrats that John McCain would make a better commander in chief than Obama?

The Obama campaign seems nave when it keeps reacting with hurt feelings and play-by-the-rules protestations to the Clinton modus vivendi of grabbing the slightest slip and ripping it open. Hillarys kneecapper Howard Wolfson compares the goo-goo Obama campaign to Ken Starr with a straight face.

The superdelegates are watching to see if Obama can stiffen his backbone. After seeing their candidates lose races they should have won in 2000 and 2004 because they flinched at Republican political waterboarding, Democrats do not want to watch the bully swipe their lollipop a third time.

One can't say MoDo isn't equally snarkish! This week she smacks Obama around.

4. buzzflash is whining about Obama
being backed into a corner, too. Can anyone say distortion? And Obama keeps winning and he has more delegates in Texas but don't let facts get in your way of a good fantasy piece, Maureen.

8. in 2000, Dowd Called Gore "Ozone Man" & Gushed Over "Charming Dubya"
http://mediamatters.org/items/200703010001 :

"Dowd relentlessly mocked Gore during his 2000 presidential campaign and onward for what she described as Gore's "obsessions about global warming and the information highway." Dowd has also compared Gore to the "wackadoo wing of the Democratic Party" for his criticism of the Iraq war; and has repeatedly furthered numerous falsehoods about Gore, such as that Gore once claimed to have "invented the Internet;" and, as Somerby noted on his Daily Howler weblog, that feminist author Wolf advised Gore on his wardrobe and how to be an "alpha male."

10. Dowd left out: "the shameless offer for Obama to run as her VP"
That's a sphincter clincher fer sure lil buddies. It all needs saying, but portraying HRC as "tough" I have to disagree. Many other adjectives apply better to HRC. Toughness involves a competent demeanor in the midst of all assaults, it's a reserve core that will be functioning when the exterior patina is shredded away. If Dowd believes HRC is tough the way a thug is considered tough, maybe so, minions in quantity can exert a seeming toughness, but I consider such bravado as thrall activity, roguish, if you will.

There hasn't been a "tough" Presidential Candidate in decades, and it is not a mark of requirement. Courageous, Rational, Inspiring, Honest, Intelligent, Persistent, and Just--these are some descriptives that I want attached to my candidate. And roguish thugs have no place in democratic campaigns.
