911/Bush knew but did nothing. Sydney Morning Herald
http://www.smh.com.au/news/world/they-knew-but-did-noth...

The warnings were going straight to President Bush each morning in his briefings by the CIA director, George Tenet, and in the presidential daily briefings. It would later be revealed by the 9/11 commission into the September 11 attacks that more than 40 presidential briefings presented to Bush from January 2001 through to September 10, 2001, included references to bin Laden.

And nearly identical intelligence landed each morning on the desks of about 300 other senior national security officials and members of Congress in the form of the senior executive intelligence brief, a newsletter on intelligence issues also prepared by the CIA.

The senior executive briefings contained much of the same information that was in the presidential briefings but were edited to remove material considered too sensitive for all but the President and his top aides to see. Often the differences between the two documents were minor, with only a sentence or two changed between them. Apart from the commission's chief director, Philip Zelikow, the commission's staff was never granted access to Bush's briefings, except for the notorious August 2001 briefing that warned of the possibility of domestic al-Qaeda strikes involving hijackings. But they could read through the next best thing: the senior executive briefings.

1. lihop.
although they seem to be realizing that the official explanation of 9/11 is bullshit and are trying to make the incompetence claim to cover the fact that they either let it or made it happen. I figure that made it makes more sense.

4. Looks like it will be a great book.....
It seems like the whole world will know the truth about the criminal nature of the Bush regime before we do anything about it, since it seems we have no intention to do anything about it--ever.

11. I would venture to say that this is the definitive must read when it
comes to the 911 commission investigation. At best Bush and company are negligent. At worst they let it happen.

13. It is a good book - wouldn't call it a great book
Edited on Sat Mar-08-08 07:38 PM by RamboLiberal
It's been out for about a month now. I'm in the middle of it, in fact this morning I read the section this article is referencing. It makes a helluva case that the 9-11 commission didn't do a very good job and should've used subpoena power instead of trying to play nice and especially having a spy, Rice friend and obfuscator in the person if Zelicow. It was letting the fox in the hen house.

I highly recommend every DU'er get this book and read it.

The one I'm looking forward to is Richard Clarke's new book - You're Government Failed You.

Hope Clarke lays it all out.

7. Even the United Nations Security Council sent representatives in AUGUST to warn Bush . . .
and all of our intelligence agencies ---

This happened because Putin had been banging on the doors of Washington -- WH and intelligence services --- to give them lists of hijackers and all the info they had --- and were greeted with
"Operation Ignore" by Bush administration . . . .

So Putin went to the UN Security Council with their info and concerns about the lack of response
from the administration --- !!!!

So in AUGUST, the United Nations Security Council was also alerting the Bush administration ---

Obviously, this was their plan --- the neo-cons were after this attack on Iraq since 1992 . . .
Clinton said no --- so they MIHOP . . . !!!

17. The evidence that they knew is overwhelming ---
thus I say they MIHOP . . .

And I think that anyone who honestly looks at the information from the great teams of investigators who have been working on 9/11 could only agree!

PS: IMO, the "free press" was complicit in trying to give the American public the idea that
there was only a bit of information coming in --- from small nations with unreliable intelligence!!

I'm very interested in foreign intel warnings and am familiar with the French warnings. I've heard about the Russian warnings, but hadn't heard Putin went through the security council.

Do you have a source? I'd like to read it!

And why hasn't this author been all over TV. I've only heard him interviewed on a couple of progressive radion shows. And this is not a 9-11 conspiracy book. Just a straight forward NY Times reporter investigation of the real and serious shortcomings of the 9-11 Commission.

19. Americans still live something of American myth . . . but need to wake up ---
On the other hand, given election steals which seem to go back to the mid-1960's in America ---
similar to American interference with government all around the world post WWII ---
See: Votescam, The Stealing of America
http://www.constitution.org/vote/votescam__.htm

Given the long history of political violence in American politics over the past 40/50 years . . .
and our CIA's history of violence all over the world ---

I don't think these people are going to give up easily ---
They have control whether they're in the White House or not, in many ways ---
And usually leave behind plenty of people to keep the trails covered and to keep honest investigations from actually happening --

But --- I wish you were right!!

The US myth is a grand, and nice myth, but when the myth are out to be busted as just a myth, what then?... In Europe many country too have had myth of their superiority over others, but WW1, and specially WW2 killed that myth hard and brutal... And even Germany get a specially hard lesson on their own lack of "superhuman" ability... And for the most of the year after WW2 we have had enough to get with our life, and rebuild wat was destroyed.. Both mentally and physical... And the fysical was maybe the easy part...

I am not sure about everything in US, but as I see it, the last "honest" election in US was in the 1960s, and after that, "someone" have decided that it was best to get away with democracy in US.. The Killing of JFK in 1963 was the final nail in true honest election in US as far as i Know it.. Even that the election in 1960, where JFK was elected as president, was a contested one...

CI, have been doing a lot of what would be called criminals, all over the world.. They may even have doing that in US itself.. of course you would _never_ get information about it. Even if it exist somewhere in the government archives.. Every government in the world are pretty good to hold on to their archives. Even if the public are been told that the archives are been destroyed and are not there anymore.. They have just been clever enough, to hide it... But it is there... Under other names. Under other file nr osv...

Off course if you are used to get what you want, anytime you would not give up power easily.. It is the way that this type of people rule.. By never get loose the power they are given.. I am more afraid of the people behind the curting, than the people who are in front, and are known.. Many shadows in the dark are the men, and some woman we should fear. And I really mean FEAR. Because they would not do what the people want.. Never.. They want to rule, discreet. By stealth, and to rise and crush people who are not doing their bidding.. No I don't believe in Bildenberger and that sort of group. But I fear that behind the power, it is always some Shadow who are more dangerous, than they who are known to have the power... Some call them advisor's.. Some call them friends....

In old days, here in Europe where we have had emperors and kings, in days when the king on the throne was weak and not capable of doing what must be doing to keep order on the nobles, the most dangerous place to be, was on the throne.. In Russia they have/had a saying.. Close to the Tsar. Close to the Death... And that is a true saying... And that can also be given to the US as today.. Many who know the truth about the Dear Leader George Walker Bush jr, would be in danger to be killed, if they ever tried to tell the truth, about really happen end before 2000, where Bush was "elected" to president.. And to 2009, when the President (hopefully) would be out of office and maybe even possible to be tried for the crimes he and the mob in his Administration have been doing....

In my home, when I was growing up, we was always told, Truth would always come OUT. So it was pointless to lie, because they would always some time down the road know what happened and then confront us.. The truth would come out here to. This administration, and their follower would sooner or later been taken into what they have doing, and why they have been doing that. Cheney, Bush Rice.. And a lot of other would sooner or later be punished for what they have been doing for the last 8 year..

If you have HONEST investigators in the first place. People who really want, to get to the bottom, and are not stopping for nothing.. Then you would get the truth... What you and your country really need, are some special prosecutor, with ALL the right, and powers the office would need. To get after all the criminals.. If the Republican dominated Congress in the 1990s could use 600 million dollar to waste on mr Clinton's sperm. Why cant the Congress use a lot of money to get after the criminals in this administration?:. And after the contractors who have given free pas when it come to looting the US treassary... It is Just so criminal to se what is happened in US from the outside.. If I have had some power I would use it to stop this criminal people to destroy US as a country... But I have not. And can just stand by and pray for the best..

28. Interesting . . .
Agree JFK coup was turning point --- but probably much happened before that beyond our noting.

And no investigations ---

And -- looks like we can now count out one more guy who investigated . . . Elliot Spitzer.

Done in the old fashioned way ---!!! SEX!

Meanwhile, I do think your analogy to royalty is correct . . .
in ways political life still imitates those days of palace intrigue and changing loyalties.

The JFK coup, was a turning point, when the "rulers behind the throne"for first time was seeing that they in fact can rule, by putting the "right man" in power.. But as you pointed out, i may have happened long before JFK was killed.. Maybe the "Power between the throne" have always been there.. From President Washington and all the way down to the current Administration ?

In the "old days" the noble men was the political elite.. Today the political elite is little bigger, because the noble houses of yesterday are not there anymore.. But even if you don't have noble houses, you do have an elite who believe they are the noble houses, and that the REAL power in the cort, is in their hand.. Outsiders who are not part of the "noble houses" are shunned.. Or been told to sit down and don't look stupid.. I would bet that if you investigated they who hold power in Washington DC, you would find the same families all over the chart... As in the old day, when surten families have getting the right, to advice the King, or Emperor when it come to how the country should be ruled.. And in many cases the nobles was honest enough, to get the state of affairs to go, even if the king was weak, and the country was divided between powerfully houses... But if the King was strong, and keep the nobles in check.. The honest nobles was capable of doing what the king wanted... And the other houses have to keep clear and do what the king wanted.. To a extend.. But even in the Middle Ages the nobles often decided that THEY have the right to say no, if the king was out of bounds...

But today, we don't official have some nobles, either in US or in Norway. But we do have powerfully families, who hold much more power than we believe.. Or maybe want to know about... But I hope that our Parliament system would survive for a long time.. And not just be a blimp on the time of history..

22. I wish that were guaranteed Diclotican..
unfortunately the mainstream media is complicit in lying the American public into the Iraq war and the neocon agenda. My personal opinion is that the MSM was infiltrated by the CIA years ago and they orchestrate the events that unfold in the world. Pundits constantly refer to the "liberal" media but a quick search of the board of directors of any of the major U.S. media company's points out just the opposite. Our government/media is in bed with big banks, the military industrial complex, pharmaceutical companies, lobbyists, energy companies. They are all one in the same nowadays and they control what the people hear. Sadly I don't think they are gonna let the American people become aware that they have been deceived. And your English is much better than my Norwegian by the way! So don't feel the need to apologize. Cheers.

The US main stream media is complicit of doing what the "rulers" are doing. But after the Internet was born, it is not that easy to lie and do what the rulers" want to do.. If you do not want to close down the internet in US then, and just let the corporate own and use the system.. Here on DU, and other places like it, many american are given the information they need, not from US media, but from the outside.. The guardian have been used for many, when it come to thing that is happening in United States of America...

Many in the right wing would give less about how liberal, or lack of liberal the media are. They want to give the IMPRESSION that the media is liberal, and not fair when it come to get information up.. In that prospect they are like the Nazis in the 1930s, who claimed that they was telling the truth, and that all history of how bad germany have become after Hitler was coming to power was not true, or very over the top in many cases.. Yes many germans could agree that the SS and SA was little hard, but they would also tell other, that Germany now where a country where peace and stability was on the rice, and where every one was given 3 square meal every day, and a steady job. For the most german, that was the important thing, to get a steady job, and food on the table.. Freedom was something they was sharing off, as "something in the past". It is maybe little silly to compare US to Germany in the 1930s. But many of the word, the rhetoric and what is saying behind the lines, are by everyone who know their german history scarily clear for what happened when Hitler first come to power, and used the FEAR to get what he want.. As mr Bush have been doing since 2000... Scaring US to do what he, and the "shadows behind the throne" to do what they want... To make US a much less free country as they have being.. And many american are just saying "let it happened":. If it make my life more easy, and that "My" fear less.. Then do it.. Even if it means that the same freedom they believe in, are curtained, and maybe even given away... Everything for some "security"...

If the american public, ever get aware that they have they have been deceived, they would rice as one, and trow the new lords down the Mississippi.. America was made by revolution, by trowing the old lords down and build a new, free country.. The american public can do that again. And the "lords" of US know that and fear you.. What US need, are to do what they fear most.. Tear the lie, tear the deceiving, and all the other thing down. And show the american public as what they ARE.. But would america do that?:.

Tank you. I was meet by the "grammar police" once, and are saying it, just as a warning for you all, that I am not an English speaking man :):. But I am coming pretty well into English now.. Better and better day for day.. I guess my old English teacher would be glad to se that I am not totally bad ;) And I am using a lot of Check Spelling to get it right..
