Answer to "Can Muslims Be Good Americans?" E-Mail

Sorry, Old Friend

I call bullshit on this. Barak Obama is NOT a Muslim. He is a Christian and has attended the same Christian church for almost 20 years--every Sunday with the wife and kids. For someone, such as myself, who is not a Christian or a Muslim, this is shabby, bigoted propaganda perpetrated by people too ignorant to vote. I'm attaching a refutation to the absurd notion that the USA was founded as a "christian" nation in the words of the Founders themselves. (For DUers at: http://journals.democraticunderground.com/yellerpup) Usually, I let this type of anti-intellectual swill pass and just delete it without comment. This message is too hateful not to challenge. Please read the attachment from start to finish and send it on to everyone you know. Love you, but can't get behind the lies and prejudice espoused by "Can Muslims Be Good Americans?"

This woman named her first child after me. I haven't heard from her since.

1. I got this same one from my s-i-l yesterday. (Obama's not
mentioned in it, is he?) Anyway, I wrote her back to send her this link and to tell her how disappointed I was in her. She responded by saying it wasn't her opinion. So naturally, I had to ask her why she sent it, especially when it asks people to send it far and wide. :eyes: Anyway, I found this for a response. Nothing that I could find on snopes...

2. Thanks for that link.
Excellent point by point take down of the whole nasty thing. The original e-mail did not mention Obama but my (ex)friend did in her intro. She added something along the lines of how easily fooled Democrats are and how far away from god the country had gone when the USA was founded as a "christian nation." She also claimed that another friend of hers had been married to a Muslim for over 20 years and backed her up on those foolish claims. Thanks again for this and all the excellent work you do on DU.

5. "this is shabby, bigoted propaganda perpetrated by people too ignorant to vote. "
Unfortunately, people who vote DO believe this shabby bigoted propaganda. Which is why the Republicans perpetuate it. I hate to sound bigoted here myself, but people who are stupid and ignorant enough to believe this bullshit should NOT be allowed to vote!!!

6. I'm with you emotionally, but the problem comes when it comes to weeding
them out and who decides. I'd trust you to do it, of course, but it's a big job for one person to take on! ;)

7. Simple, really
Anyone who still believes Bush is doing a good job, should be determined as too stupid to vote. That should take care of it!!
