Nader unloads on Obama, Clinton
Nader unloads on Obama, Clinton

Ralph Nader tells Politico he’s launched his independent candidacy for president in part because of what he sees as the spinelessness of the potential Democratic nominees, Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.).

Nader said in an interview that Obama is an overly cautious captive of his handlers who has a “relatively mediocre” Senate record.

Clinton, Nader said, “is a panderer and a flatterer.”

The consumer advocate, lawyer and author launched his bid Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” delighting Republicans and worrying some Democrats, who say he could sap crucial votes — as he did in 2000 as the Green Party nominee — if the general election winds up being close.

Although some Democratic strategists believe Nader will wind up being a marginal force — more a joke than a nuisance — he said he’ll push to be included in presidential debates, through court action if necessary. Nader said he also has lined up pro bono lawyers to help him fight state-by-state ballot-access battles.

progressives, and that's why he didn't say anything about McCain.

8. yes and they do a real poor at that job which is why he wants to run.
at this point I don't see the point since I figure there is no longer any way to stop our nation either collapsing the way all other empires have in the past after turning into something worse than the worst of them.

7. Nader IS a load!
Ralph Nader ceased being a human being. Now he's mutated into a cicada that rises out of the earth every 4 years to suck out any life in anything that opposes his Republican masters.

9. Where hhas Nader been the last 8 years!?
Just , oh great felators of nader, WHERE THE FUCK HAS HE BEEN ALL THIS TIME!?!?!?!?!?!

If that SAD , pathetic excuse, and perfect example of a HAS-BEEN even gave one HALF A CRAP about this country and ANY kind of REAL MEANINGFUL change, he would have been CRUSADING AGAINST THE REICH WING FOR YEARS!!!!!

As it stands, all that has managed to do is get * enough votes and confusion in Florida in '00 to have the election stolen, and cause confusion in people's minds about the REAL and SERIOUS differences between the dems and the gopers.

Why hasn't he actually DONE anything about voting reform, the black boxes, the SERIOUS VIOLATIONS OF CIVIL RIGHTS in southern states!?

WHERE has he BEEN for the last 4 YEARS since the last selection of *!?

WHY HAS HE NOTHING TO SAY WHEN IT MATTERS>?!@>@@>

I agree, he's just a shill for the Reich wing now. he is a nothing, a nobody, a whipping boy whose retirement is being paid for by teh corporations he used to rain against. sadly now he's just a sad sack.

Yes there's plenty to be changed within the Democratic party, but he has said nothing about it in the interim when it could have actually done good.

and do I really need to point out, that most of his social issues, are stone age?

10. BAM!
Amen, comtec!

I get sick of seeing these Nader apologists on this board blabbering about how Nader is only interested in the progressive agenda. No, Nader is full of shit and full of himself. If he really gave a damn he'd work with the party during the off years. He has (or had) a good name and he could have used that name to influence policy. Instead, he decides to show up every four years moaning about how the Dems aren't good enough and to vote for him.

If the stakes weren't as high, I'd call him a joke.

11. I asked a co-worker who applauds Nader's entry into the race
the same question, what has he done in the past eight years? She stammered her way through the answer and came to the conclusion that he really hasn't done much. We normally see eye-to-eye, but on this, we'll differ.

15. Do the Republofascists pay him?
Ive never forgiven him for his suggestion that Florida officials flip a coin to settle the supposed tie in 2000. Incredibly irresponsible. A million dead Iraqis, 4000+ dead servicemen and the 3000+ WTC dead and their families probably would see things differently. Without being in total power I dont believe the Republican-traitors-to-America would have attemped the 911 treason. Thanks Ralph.

16. Many years ago, I categorized Ralph Nader as a self-serving jerk, and time has proven me correct.
Although Nader likes to portray himself as a man of the people, he is actually a multimillionaire with investments in some of the worst corporations on the planet. According to Wikipedia:

(snip)
**********
According to the mandatory fiscal disclosure report that he filed with the Federal Election Commission in 2000, he then owned more than $3 million worth of stocks and mutual fund shares; his single largest holding was more than $1 million worth of stock in Cisco Systems, Inc. He also held more than $2 million in two money market funds. Nader owns no car or real estate, and says he lives on US$25000 a year and gives most of his stock earnings to many of the over four dozen non-profit organizations he has founded<59><60>

Based on previous disclosure forms, his stock portfolio (thru the Fidelity Magellan Fund) includes: Halliburton, Occidental Petroleum, the Limited, the Gap, Wal-Mart, Exxon-Mobil, Shell Oil Company, Sunoco, Texaco, Chevron Corporation, Raytheon (a major missile manufacturer), other various defense contractors, and Bristol-Myers Squibb. <61> <62> <63>
***********

There are plenty of "good" corporations that he could invest in. To support Wal-Mart, several oil companies, military contractors, and a drug company, indicates to me that the man is a hypocrite.

Even though almost ANY Democrat would be better for the country than almost any Republican, Nader only crawls out of the woodwork to attack Democrats. In spite of making money writing books on populist topics, his assets are invested in some of the worst right-wing corporations. Where he puts his money speaks more of the man than what comes out of his mouth.
