Police Swabbing Mouths During Traffic Stops In Serial Killer Hunt

POSTED: 9:59 am EST February 6, 2008
UPDATED: 8:37 am EST February 7, 2008

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Police officers in Daytona Beach are swabbing the mouths of persons of interests during traffic stops with special DNA kits in the hunt for an elusive serial killer, sources close to the investigation told Local 6.

Investigators said they believe the same man has killed four women execution style in the Daytona Beach area.

A profiler said the serial killer is likely clean cut and probably has a wife or girlfriend.

And, the Daytona Beach police Chief, Mike Chitwood, said detectives have the killer's DNA.

"Genetically, we know who he is," Chitwood said. "We have DNA evidence from the murder scenes -- so, we got that. That is never going to go away. And, sooner or later, we will match the DNA to the physical person and bring closure to everything that is going on."

no probable cause, nothing. That's no different than the old road blocks and produce your papers.

2. What possible legal basis is there for this? Florida leads the
way in becoming a fascist police state. I guess if you are going to be involved in a traffic stop in Daytona it would be best to be scruffy and gay to avoid drawing suspicion to yourself.

4. Volusia County is a dinosaur. They've always been strange. I live less than
fifty miles away and never go down there anymore... I sure miss my favorite Chinese Restaurant, but that's all.

6. There was this place on the beach, a crappy little bar, that

had this huge steamed seafood platter, they served on a beer tray. Awesome. The name may have been "The Ocean Deck" or something It just kind of merged into the sand on the water side.

Come to think of it, you could keep a little of that platter in your cheek for some crustacean/mollusk DNA...

On edit, the internet is grand-

There it is, it looks like they've fixed the Ocean Deck up too. Years ago at gas station in Algoma, Wisconsin I saw a guy with an Ocean Deck t-shirt. Come to think of it, I went there based on a recommendation I got from a guy in Wisconsin I'd never met before.

little place on the west side of A1A called Hong Kong Restaurant. It has a pagoda roof and some really heavenly food. (Prices were good too.)

The Pacific Shrimp was to die for.

But I haven't been there in fifteen years and I don't know if it is still a going concern. But if it is, you might want to check it out.

on edit: I just checked and they are still there....

8. I live on the other side of the state. Went to Daytona when we
lived in Wisconsin. I cannot stand to drive anywhere in Florida if I can avoid it.

9. I hear ya. All the worst drivers in the country seem to have moved to La Florida...
I could never figure out how there are sooo many accidents on what are essentially flat, straight roads with few natural hazards.

Of course, now days, there is way too much traffic and that is a hazard in its own right.
