What's at stake with the at-large caucus precincts (lawsuit filed against NV Dem party)
Note: the lawsuit mentioned in the editorial below was filed late yesterday and can be found here in .pdf: http://vegaspundit.typepad.com/vegas_pundit/2008/01/lawsuit-against.html?cid=96840358#comment-96840358

Las Vegas Sun:

January 11, 2008 · 6:28 PM

A lawsuit may be filed challenging the legitimacy of the nine at-large caucus precincts local casinos have established for their workers, columnist Jon Ralston reports in his Web newsletter, RalstonFlash.

It's unclear who is considering filing the suit.

Consideration of a lawsuit comes just two days after the presumably powerful Culinary Union endorsed Illinois Sen. Barack Obama over his chief rival, New York Sen. Hillary Clinton.

Ralston predicts the union would blame Team Clinton for a suit, because it could undercut its influence: "You can be sure Clinton, who has criticized the caucus process for disenfranchising voters, would not want to be seen as being behind a lawsuit that might be seen as doing just that."

My opinion is that this strange formula that is being used to calculate the delegates in these "at-large" precincts were part of the early "Clinton" strategy by the players in the State party to get Clinton the caucus.

Why it is being spun out now to look like it is Clinton who doesn't want this is because of the Culinary Union endorsement of Obama. This lawsuit would not have been filed by the Nevada State Education Association IF Hillary had obtained the union's backing as planned.

1. The lawsuit was filed, here's a link to NYT story

The at-large precincts are being established because thousands of hotel workers cannot leave work to participate in the midday caucuses in their home precincts. The Nevada State Education Association has said it would not endorse any Democrat, but some of its top officials have endorsed Mrs. Clinton. The association’s deputy executive director, Debbie Cahill, for instance, was a founding member of Senator Clinton’s Nevada Women’s Leadership Council.

2. The NSEA speaks for teachers, so it must be what the teachers
want to have happen; otherwise the TEACHERS would tell their union to STFU and drop the suit.

3. Isn't it incredible that when Clinton is PROVEN to have acted underhandely
you hear crickets on DU instead of the railing of clinton supporters.

this is absolutely terrible. It makes you wonder if we will ever return to a democracy in this country after the years of bush and now, maybe clinton because she can't play fair to win and run on her record and the issues.
