NEW YORK The Rev. Billy Graham takes center stage in the issue of TIME magazine coming out on Friday, with an interview about his wife's passing and another story revealing his involvement with the Clintons during the Lewinsky scandal.
The issue also includes the first excerpts from the forthcoming book by Nancy Gibbs and Michael Duffy, "The Preacher and the Presidents: Billy Graham in the White House." From that, Graham says of past presidents, “Their personal lives, some of them, were difficult. But I loved them all, I admired them all, I knew that they had burdens beyond anything I could ever know or understand.”
On Senator Hillary Clinton: “I keep up with her. I think a lot of Hillary.”
On Iraq: “I’m getting a little depressed about Iraq … Think of what it is doing to Bush. There doesn’t seem to be any way out.”...

TIME provides background to the Graham-Hillary link, noting that "in a new interview, Hillary Clinton reports that the evangelist fulfilled a pastoral role during the Monica Lewinsky scandal and helped the First Lady endure the ordeal. At that time, Clinton says, Graham was ''incredibly supportive to me personally. And he was very strong in saying, I really understand what you're doing and I support you. He was just very personally there for me.'"
She adds: 'The entire world was judging my decisions and my actions and there weren't very many people who, frankly, were understanding, and he was. He said, 'You know, forgiveness is the hardest thing that we're called upon to do. And we all face it at some point in our lives and I'm just really proud of you for taking it on.'"
