Study: Law not halting student harassment
Every year more than 200,000 students in California's middle and high schools -- or 7.5 percent of the state's total student population -- face anti-gay harassment, whether they are gay or not, according to the California Safe Schools Coalition.

The study, known as "Safe Place to Learn" and released on Monday, measures the effectiveness of school harassment policies to protect GLBT youth in California. ...

The research also found:

- 2 in every 3 GLBT students reported anti-gay harassment

- 91 percent of all students report hearing anti-gay slurs

- 27 percent of students reported being harassed because they weren't "masculine enough" or "feminine enough" ...
