Iran is a suicide mission for our military...
News broke today that Cheney is pushing Bush for military action against Iran, and nothing could be a bigger disaster for the United States. If we think the insurgency in Iraq is bad, we ain't seen nothing yet compared to how bad the insurgency is going to be in Iran.

Top US commanders are crying out for more troops in Iraq, in a futile attempt to stem the tide of the burgeoning civil war, and the Veep is talking about going into Iran? There are not enough troops in the entire Army to maintain force levels to bring stability in Iraq...http://www.hamlettpost.com">Click here to contine reading.

1. I have never been in the military.
I know nothing about determining what we need to maintain our treaties or safe troop levels for general defense. Even the use of mercenaries, which is becoming much too common with this administration, would never begin to cover our needs.

Even someone as ignorant as I can see that this will break our military. We could end up with nothing for defense but our nuclear arsenal. Maybe this is what they want. I don't think Cheney would hesitate to use nuclear weapons.

2. Probably no occupation intention for Iran
Not enough US troops left, and the Navy wants to get to do something. So they will just bomb the living snot of what are considered to be the offending targets.

Desired plan was: Use a "small" nuke tipped bunker buster against the reactor sites. Either delivered by US or Israel. We already shipped the bunker busters to Israel over a year ago. Congress no-go-ed that because of the fallout.

Second plan was: Fire an ICBM without a nuke warhead and let the impact of the missile returning from space drill into the buried reactors. That got No-go-ed by Putin (Russia). Putin said they would consider that first strike missile firing as a hostility towards Russia and would return fire with Russian ICBSs with nukes against the US.

That leaves the current lame plan. 3 aircraft carriers worth of bombing capacity hammering the dog crap out Iran. And probably B2s, B1s, and old B52s from the Air Force.

None of that takes any ground troops.

4. Doesn't Really Accomplish Anything Either
Except cause Iran to cut off the straits of Hormuz so we get to see what it's like not having any oil for a while.

6. And what is it
for ordinary Iranians.

It's the harm we do that we should care about first.
