George H. W. Bush On Stage

It was at this point that I remembered reading about a speech George H. W. Bush was scheduled to give. But I also remembered that Bush had collapsed yesterday in Palm Springs and was in the hospital this morning: Former President George H.W. Bush was treated at a Palm Springs, Calif., hospital for dehydration and released Monday morning after collapsing during a Sunday afternoon golf game, Bush's chief of staff, told The Associated Press that Bush fainted while playing golf with friends in 94-degree heat....“Is Bush here for his speech?”, I asked. The scalper said yes. Judging by the crowd they certainly believed the former president was about to speak.

Bush’s speech appeared to be a stump speech of sorts, but very funny and very well prepared...
During the question and answer period, hecklers arose from the crowd. The first shouted, “You speak about moral values, why didn’t you teach your son any?”

This clearly riled the former President and with a burst of energy he arose from his chair. “Where’s my cane?” he said, with the clear implication that he would like to use it on the protestor.

He told the audience and the heckler that he did teach his son moral values and that his son did have strong moral values. Bush said about his son: "He's an honest and decent man and he calls them as he sees them, contrary to what you read in these left-wing tabloids."

The next protestor was drowned out by the pro-Bush crowd. Bush commented, “You know, I have seen the hecklers that Bill Clinton faces and with these hecklers tonight it is amateur night.”

There was one more question and he then left the stage, dragging his cane.

2. Is he inadvertently saying that right-wing hecklers of Clinton are
meaner and more vicious than liberal hecklers?

Well, it does make sense....

5. if he threatened me with his cane, I would ask, "what are you going to do, throw up on me?"
Given that I'm of Japanese descent, that might get a few laughs from the audience.
