JEB Will RUN: BET ON IT

By Vince Williams

Ok, Jeb proclaimed he wasn't going to run for President in 2008. So, let's get this one out of the way right up front: since when does a Party's "darling" who plays hard to get, eschew changing his mind, if DRAFTED to run. Therefore, Jeb will be the GOP's candidate with ONE very important caveat. The entire political landscape changes rendering Jeb ineligible (read: "UNelectable") if George W. is indicted and/or impeached. Like it or not, Jeb's reputation and chances hinge on his brother's escape from criminal and/or malefactorable notoriety. Naturally, at this pregnant moment in history, big brother's "OK" reputation is by NO MEANS safe. If Rumsfeld is indicted and charged ... George W. suddenly becomes "naked" to the same attack.

Now, John McCain appears to be the Repub's first choice. With his Iraq advice for BEEFING up the troop strength at first, and then effecting a phased withdrawal of troops, his approach will likely appeal to George W., as well as, perhaps, become acceptable to those who want us to get out. Frankly, if we wish to succeed in mitigating or eliminating the insurgency, adding a couple of hundred thousand troops (thereby overwhelming the al quaida and militia contingencies) looks very attractive. Taking away weapons, removing cells of resistance and negating opposition should have been Rumsfeld's answer years ago (instead of relying on his arrogance). Whether it would still work is highly questionable. However, it all depends on whether we hope to mollify the situation, or just leave and let them deal with what's left. Anyway, if Jeb fails due to the aforementioned George W. opprobrium, McCain seems best positioned to gain the nod.

So, let's look at Jeb's pluses and minuses. He's 53 years old and a converted Catholic. So, on which side of the ledger do we place any of this: of course, depending upon our OWN preferences, we'll select won't we? But, some of it is rather easy. Unlike his brother, Jeb was a fine scholar, having graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a Bachelors' degree in Latin American Studies in 1973 from The University of Texas at Austin. He registered for the draft, but the Vietnam War ended before his number came up. After earning his degree, Bush went to work in the international division of Texas Commerce Bank, which was a job he received through the influence of James A. Baker (yes, THAT James Baker). Jeb was transferred to Venezuelan capital, Caracas, to open a new operation for the bank. He spent two years there, attracting a lot of new business to that bank and gaining considerable respect for his business acumen. He moved his family there as well....

1. He's only Catholic when around Miami Cubans though, isn't that right?
So theoretically he's free to be anything in the District of Columbia.

8. JEB is unelectable.
His name is Bush, therefore his name is mud. How anyone could ever seriously entertain the possibility of another Bush presidency is beyond me. There is no way Americans would support him; he is related to W, so no one will vote for him.

Beyond that, he has a criminal record far too long for me to recount here. Let me just say that he has committed so many crimes that the Democrats will tear him apart if he tries to run.

28. The Dems SHOULD and COULD tear him apart if he runs, my worry is whether they will or properly
eviscerate any GOP candidate, especially in light of their ceding California to Schwarzenegger, an epic strategic blunder.

12. Sure...why else would he quit the governship?
Oh, the hypocrisy of the republican party!!!!!

And to have Charlie Crist take his place!

Crist's and Foley were involved in gay sex parties, some of which took place during 2003 in Coconut Grove, Florida. Crist and Jeb Bush had been able to keep a lid on the once-divorced Crist's life style, touting his conservative Christian credentials, but that the Foley revelations will severely impact the Crist gubernatorial campaign.

18. As his brother once said: "Bring it on!"
If Jeb thinks he can survive a Presidential run coming from FLORIDA - land of corruption...he seriously underestimates the liberal blogosphere. Oh my God, discrediting Jeb would be like shooting fish in a barrel.

20. He's married to a Mexican and is soft on immigration,
as is his son. I remember when he made comments that he and his wife are very hurt at the attitudes toward Hispanics.

His son, George, even spoke at pro-immigrant rallies in Texas.

Aside from that, there have been many rumors about adultery and a shaky marriage. They didn't even live together in Tallahassee. Columba prefers Miami. His kids have had numerous arrests and drug problems.

26. Nobody's Said Jeb Will WIN, Just That He Will Be All Over, Like Hillary
He could make a lot of GOPpers spend a lot of time and money defeating him in the primaries. Or he could end up as Bush ventriloquist dummy #2. It will be entertaining, at least.

27. Jeb - Will - Not - Run
Not because he doesn't want to, and not because W might not want the family "legacy" extended, but because too many other people in the Party are ready, after 8 years of W and 4 years of GHWB, to flex their own muscles and won't be willing to let Jeb hop to the front of the line.

29. Remember Jeb's imaginary spirit warrior guide Chang?
Edited on Fri Nov-17-06 02:34 AM by yurbud
If this got any play when he runs for president, it would dramatically hurt him with Evangelicals, and the people who believe in New Age stuff probably aren't going to vote for Jeb on other grounds.

Jeb Reveals That Imaginary Friend ‘Warrior Chang’ Guides His Every Move

Posted by Trish | Sep. 18, 2005, 1:57 pm

This is too weird to make up. Jeb Bush has an imaginary friend. Gainesville Sun:
I rely on Chang with great regularity in my public life. He has been by my side and sometimes I let him down.

Here are Bush’s words, spoken before hundreds of lawmakers and politicians: ‘’Chang is a mystical warrior. Chang is somebody who believes in conservative principles, believes in entrepreneurial capitalism, believes in moral values that underpin a free society.

‘’I rely on Chang with great regularity in my public life. He has been by my side and sometimes I let him down. But Chang, this mystical warrior, has never let me down.'’

It’s a scary place inside Jeb Bush’s head. This insight into his twisted psyche explains a lot.

In a 1989 Washington Post article on the politics of tennis, former President George Bush was quoted as threatening to ‘’unleash Chang'’ as a means of intimidating other players.

The saying was apparently quite popular with Gov. Bush’s father, and referred to a legendary warrior named Chang who was called upon to settle political disputes in Chinese dynasties of yore. Text
