The Theology of George W. Bush
Like it or not, one of the best ways to understand a person's thought processes and world view is to look at their theology - the way they understand God. This new "Nation" article does a succinct and accurate job of summing up Bush's Theology in threee basic areas.
1. He's a Manichean "This ancient heresy divides all of reality in two: Absolute Good and Absolute Evil." The Christian Church rejectede this view as heresy early in its history, but it is still a potent force, particularly in Fundamentalist (of all faiths) world views
2. Messianism. He feels he's been called by god to do this particular job, and frequently uses Evangelical and apocalyptic phrasings
3. Manipulation of Prayer. "True prayer does not pretend to tell God what we want Him to do but rather asks that God tell us what He wishes us to do." This also is a common misuse of prayer - Witness Pat Robertson scrunching up his eyes and telling god what to do sbout all those people Pat feels ar too sinful.

The author closes with a wonderful statement: "It is remarkable how closely Bush's discourse coincides with that of the false prophets of the Old Testament."

2. More reason to support separation of church and state: religious fanatics
who get into power who use the justification of their faith to lord over those without power or means to oppose.

Examples in history: monarchies, theocracies, and American fundamentalist Christians and their toadies.
