Celebrity status gives Schwarzenegger a pass (on sex misdeeds)
Small town paper says an obvious truth that bigger ones are staying silent on.

This is a national not just state level story because if Arnold is re-elected, he will surely be used for higher office too.

When racism and the religious right fade as effective vote-getting tools for the republicans, Arnold will be GOP 2.0. New celebrity cultural wrapper, same soulless corporate machine underneath.

Celebrity status gives Schwarzenegger a pass

By Thomas D. Elias, [email protected]
October 9, 2006

KEY EXCERPTS:

So why is California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger one of the few major Republicans keeping silent on the scandal roiling his party? Might it be because he lives in a glass house and doesn't want to throw stones?

Schwarzenegger, remember, didn't just talk about his own sexual peccadilloes. He acted on them and admitted to them when found out. He even promised to hire a private detective to investigate his own behavior, and then never did.

Yes, there are differences. Foley's suggestive e-mails were to minors, while Schwarzenegger's admitted and alleged acts were on nonconsenting adults, at least one of whom sued him. And there are no allegations of pedophilia or homosexuality against Schwarzenegger.

But no journalist in California, no national political writer, has apparently even noticed the fact that Schwarzenegger — with a double-digit lead over re-election challenger Phil Angelides in every major poll — has a history of sexual misdeeds. He admitted to physical acts, something Foley, for one, has not.

1. He gets a pass on everything for some reason.
I can't figure why the people of CA voted for him the first time. No experience, the groping scandal, the hummers, he can barely speak English, etc
