ADMINISTRATION SEEKS ‘EXTREME LEGAL MAKEOVER’
While the Bush Administration’s attempt to “redefine” Common Article 3 of The Geneva Convention has run into stiff resistance from military men and leading GOP Senators, confidential sources say that the Neo-Cons are planning an even more “extreme legal makeover” — redefining Article III of the U.S. Constitution.

David Addington, Cheney’s chief of staff, and a major proponent of absolute presidential powers under the Unitary Executive theory, is currently drafting a plan that would completely abolish judicial review of all Executive actions.

President Bush has reportedly signed off on this plan, railing against activist judges such as John Marshall, who first established the principle of judicial review over 200 years ago in Marbury v. Madison.

Sources quote Bush in private meetings as saying: “it’s bad enough when a bunch of 80 year-olds on the Supreme Court tell us we can’t torture, but I’m not gonna’ take that shit from a guy who’s been dead for almost two centuries.”

The Administration’s revolutionary plan is being backed by Senate Judiciary Chairman Arlen Specter, who wants to vest exclusive authority to review all Executive action in a special three-judge court, composed of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter.

Although this plan is opposed by GOP Senators McCain, Graham and Warner, President Bush is reportedly prepared to use literal “arm-twisting” measures to change their minds, under Article 666 of the Geneva Detention.

2. Work to Stop This
This is absolutely true. The administration is pushing forward with an effort to legalize some grave violations of the Geneva Conventions. Things like sexual humiliation that we saw at Abu Ghraib would be legal. You can go to this site:

http://www.justforeignpolicy.org/involved/warcrimes091906.html

to write your senators to tell them not to weaken the War Crimes Act.

There is some strong resistence, even within Bush's own party, that needs to be strengthened.

Even Bush's former Secretary of State Colin Powell is standing up to the White House. On Wednesday he said, "The world is beginning to doubt the moral basis of our fight against terrorism. To redefine Common Article 3 would add to those doubts. Furthermore, it would put our own troops at risk."

Senator John McCain, a former prisoner of war in Vietnam, said, "Weakening the Geneva protections is not only unnecessary, but would set an example ... that put our military personnel and others directly at risk in this and future wars."

This is the Just Foreign Policy write-in site.

10. It's sad when we have trouble recognizing satire...
There's enough outrageous happenings in this administration and I for one would have appreciated a link other than the one in your signature.

Would you post a piece from The Onion as truth?
