I certainly hope he will never have sex with me.

However, I base my opinion on the handful of online articles I've read about him; transcripts of a staged debate he had with Christopher Hitchens (where Hitchens appeared to be the reasonable one!); reading the UK press on my visits to the UK; and talking to a selection of Brits (5 or 6) who'd followed his career for years.

Not exactly the quality of research I'd do for a doctoral thesis, but solid enough to express an opinion on DU with some confidence.

And actually, my sleep is effectively dreamless, so I'm spared that one.

And actually, I don't like or dislike him (as we've established, I never met him); don't consider what his personal friends have to say relevant to the discussion; have "educated myself" sufficiently on his history, career, and positions to come to a conclusion; and still maintain that his lack of credibility does no good for progressive causes, even when his opinions and mine happen to coincide.

21. Let's see . . .

1) Disagree with/consider him a bad spokesman = "don't like the guy" -- OK, whatever. My emotional response to him is so trivial a point as to make me wonder why I'm wasting electrons responding to it. Just a glutton for punishment, I guess.
2) Lack of credibility = "don't like the guy" -- see above.
3) My personal friends think I'm witty, charming, kind, a good dancer, and politically astute. So what? Do any of these opinions affect your assessment of me?
4) Progressive causes? Well, areas where Galloway and I coincide include believing Israel to be a racist, aggressor state; the Iraq war an incredibly stupid idea, badly carried out; Rupert Murdoch a force for evil; George Bush a fool and a criminal . . . and so on. The "causes" part comes in where people who hold similar views attempt to change what they consider to be unacceptable conditions in the world. And that's where having George Galloway on your side does no good at all, because he is widely considered (not just me!) to be a crank, a liar, and an apologist for dictators.
