Greg Palast - Why the GOP is Totally Wrong About Everything
Edited on Thu Nov-13-03 05:15 PM by realFedUp
(this was sent out as an e-mail but you'd probably find
it at http://www.GregPalast.com)

Look, as a journalist, I don't like saying, "I hate Republicans." In fact, I don't mind if people are Republicans in the privacy of their own bedrooms. It's just the ones that flaunt it in public, the raging, flaming ones, that give me the creeps.

This week, Thunder's Mouth Press released "The I Hate Republicans Reader: Why the GOP is Totally Wrong About Everything," which includes an article of mine about how the Bush family brought democracy to Florida as they have to Iraq.

I must put on the record, however, my concern about the book's title.

My problem with saying, "I hate Republicans" is that someone might think I have a thing for Democrats. Yes, I'll admit I've looked at the magazines and maybe perused their websites -- just out of curiosity, mind you -- but I always come away disappointed. Ultimately, there's just something a bit pathetic in watching invertebrates trying to take a stand. (Nor do I have a taste for inedible Greens.)

1. republicans are a whole lot worse than
Democrats. Greg calls the Dems "sleeping dogs" ..but that's not fair to the Dems who haven't been sleeping..I guess some are just giving them all a bad name in Greg's book.

And as for katherine harris saying Greg is a "twisted maniacally partisan". Who cares? harris is calling Greg what she, indeed, is..so why even deign to answer someone who helped steal a presidentcy?

3. That's been a Republican thing lately. Projection.
Anytime you hear a Republican badmouth Democrats or Liberals, listen to the criticism. Lately, I keep hearing how Democrats are just 'haters'.

Hell, conservatives invented the concept. They hate blacks, Jews, Catholics, liberals, Democrats, Muslims, Mexicans, 'feminazis', 'ecoterrorists', you name it. Limbaugh and his ilk have turned hatred into high art, and if a Democrat says he hates Bush, by god, Democrats are just hateful.

4. Yeah, you are so right
Rush defined the art of making the Democrats into hater, we have got to turn the tables. I am going to ask a serious question. I have had doubts about Dean's argumentative nature...but maybe we need him. Who is is not going to back down against the Repubs?

5. Hey!!!!
You left out the main stream Christians:

"You say you're supposed to be nice to the Episcopalians, and the Presbyterians, and the Methodists, and this, and that, and the other thing. Nonsense! I don't have to be nice to the spirit of the Antichrist." (Pat Robertson, from "The Most Dangerous Man in America?" by Rob Boston)

6. Yup, it's not only atheists who are the objects of
the fundies' hatred.

If anything, they hate mainstream Christians even worse, because they provide a counterexample to their twisted interpretations of Jesus' teaching.

8. Did you ever see him tell that story?
Edited on Fri Nov-14-03 06:20 PM by htuttle
He says, "Katherine Harris said I was 'twisted' and 'maniacal'."

(contemplates for a moment)

"But she didn't say I was wrong."

:)

7. The GOP, especially its far-right wing, has been wrong on virtually every
major issue since Teddy Roosevelt was president: the proof is in the pudding (in the record for the world to see).
