Gutless wonders: Dems haven't shown any spine against Bush ..
and we're all paying

By Barbara McKee
Tribune Columnist

OK, Democrats. I'm officially double-dog daring you to impeach President Bush. I triple-dog dare you.

Because you needed more incentive than the plain, single-dare the Republicans gave you with his wiretapping of Americans, I figure you are waiting for a real threat to bring justice back into our country.

I can think of about a dozen charges for impeachment. Why can't you?

President Clinton was impeached because he lied about fooling around with a White House intern. You mean to tell me that lying to Congress about illicit weapons to start a war, torture of prisoners at military prisons, denying legal representation of arrested suspects and depleting the National Guard are not enough? <snip>

1. Bigger problem here: Congress is again 'OFF' for a week
for St. Pat's Day. Or not. Why?

Dems and Repugs, 1/2 plus 1/2 of the problem equals the full problem.

Sorry, they make too much money to take so much time off. And while there, they also set the
limit for minimum wage and their wages.

Think about that.

4. Anyone should be able to beat Buxh with one tax cut tied behind their back
All they should have to say is that "I'm the exact opposite of George Buxh!"

The most He/She can lose is 37% of the country.

5. Go for it!
There are calls for censure of Bush, calls I have supported, but in fact I don't understand why those calls aren't for impeachment rather than censure. This SOB is a goddamn criminal - a WAR criminal! We need to get rid of him now! He is destroying the United States of America as it was meant to be. Employ the rule of law to dump this goofy bastard ASAP! The sooner the better!

6. So this person doesn't understand the process.

Time for her to quit writing and to take a civics course or two. At this time Democrats can not impeach Bush. It's just like all those folks who called for a filibuster of Alito. It's not possible. Take back the House n November. It only requires a simple majority to impeach. Until we regain the majority, talk of impeachment is nothing but an exercise in futility and a waste of time.

7. The Filibuster Was Completely Doable
all that was missing was some honest opposition in the gutless Democratic side of the Senate.

8. they can get on the record with things like censure and at least STOP
voting WITH the GOP and voting to confirm his corrupt, fascist, and/or war criminal nominees. I wish that last bit was hyperbole, but it's not.

Those in Congress, including Democrats, need a civics lesson. They are there to represent us, not take turns shaking their money-maker in front of corporate donors and falling over each other to kill people in Iraq to put money in those donors pockets.

We all understand that an impeachment won't go through until the Democrats take back congress. We would just like then to act like there is a serious problem with the Bushies and that this isn't business as usual. This administration is probably the biggest threat to our country's democracy since the Great Depression or Civil War, and the Democrats are treating him like he's Gerald Ford or Ike.
