Wm.F. Buckley tells Bush how to concede defeat in Iraq.
In an article on National Review on line, headlined, "It Didn't Work", Buckley states that "One can't doubt that the American objective in Iraq has failed." In an aricle basically demeaning of all Iraqis, Buckley argues that the traditional American foreign policy approach has failed because Iraqis just aren't civilized enough to overcome their factional animosities in order to "embrace democracy".

He says the big problem for Bush is to concede defeat without abandoning his foreign policy approach to other third world countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. His suggested solution is to narrowly concede that in ONE THEATRE IN THE MIDEAST, Bush's foreign policy didn't work, "without forswearing basic commitments in foreign policy."

The whole article is typically Buckley-sly-clever-disingenuous. He labels Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld's unique, pre-emptive(based-on-lies) strike foreign policy as traditional US foreign policy. And he cleverly crafts an excuse for failure which can be so narrowly applied as to leave the doors wide open for Bush to pursue exactly the same failed policy in Iran.

4. Declare victory, then retreat. "We gave them democracy"
Lemme see if I can predict how Rummy et al will frame it...

We gave them democracy - so we've accomplished what we set out to do in Iraq. It might get a little 'messy' from here, but that's normal for people suddenly able to express their will - yadda yada yada.

3. Buckley is bending as far as he can before he breaks with shrub.
A transparent effort to create cover for the boy king. Except the boy king never admits mistakes. Ever.

5. Oh, I think they already know that.
Take a good look at their faces. Do they look happy, relieved that all went well? Not hardly. Rumsfailed in particular, looks maniacal these days. I think he does a lot of shouting in meetings.

So they've understood that it's a colossal failure. No arguments there. They're just trying to figure out what to do now. Leave? And leave all the oil behind? So Russia and China can just walk in there and take it? Not a chance in hell.

So how can it be salvaged? They've already figured out that our pale faces in uniforms have a way of stirring up a lot of hatred. So they decided they'd better have Iraqis being surrogates for US rule. Guess what? It's not working either. On Friday, the news report said that "none of the Iraqi battalions are ready to stand on their own".

Iraq slides into Civil War.

What to do next? I guarantee you they are looking at all options. They've got a list of them, and they're desperately considering them all: pay off the tribal leaders, put Saddam back in power, bribe and threaten every last government official, work with Turkey, work with the Kurds, go to the Imams, work out a deal with Iran.

Desperation.

6. Well at least he's summoned up the courage to accept failure.
I can't think of any Democrat who's done that or ever will do that. Certainly not Kerry. All throughout his campaign he repeated "we must succeed in Iraq."

We can hope that this one old creepy skull and bonesman using the "F" word might inspire some liberal Democrat to point out that Failure is a good thing when it comes to ventures such as attempting to invade and rule over the entire planet, but I doubt it. I'm sure that should Democrats be permitted some power again, they will not spare us their attempts at the "succeses" that John Kerry had in store for us.

These politicians that perpetuate the superstitous allegiance to state military power all make me sick: Bush, Buckley, Kerry, Hitlery, all of them! Even Nader and Buchanan. They all believe that their God the utopian omnipotent state and its murderous military enforcers can do miracles. Their superstition blinds them to the costs in millions of lives and trillions of dollars, so the resulting hell on earth doesn't matter to them.
