2. Maybe it's me, but I have not seen that allege word used in a long time.
If it's a slam against a member of the Democratic Party, they just come out and say they did it, and then possibly look up the facts a few years later. I never heard one of them say Al Gore is alleged to have claimed to have invented the internet for example it was just considered a done deal. I almost forgot what allege means.
