Brace yourself: This is disgusting
Oh, yeah: Fight for a country that doesn't give a f*ck about you!

This cabal and it's military are some real low-life c*cks**kers...

Army campaign puts hip-hop over heroics

Tour: Bypassing traditional pitches, recruiters target minorities with rap contests and magazine subscriptions.
By Meredith Cohn
Sun Staff

The Army is experimenting with some bold new recruiting techniques these days.

They include no traditional appeals to patriotism, no heroic war stories by wounded veterans home from Iraq or ruggedly handsome role models in combat fatigues.

Instead, an amateur rap contest and free subscriptions to the popular hip-hop magazine The Source were featured yesterday as the Army put on a "Campus Combat" tour aimed at finding minority recruits at the University of Maryland, College Park.

The Army expects the "Campus Combat" tour to attract thousands of ethnic minorities at five eastern campuses over the next week, and generate thousands of leads to help meet its goal of about 100,000 recruits a year.<<<

1. The majority of Hip-Hop CDs are purchased by white males
Edited on Sat Oct-25-03 10:34 AM by roughsatori
I think it is still something like 75%. If that figure holds then they should rope in a lot of middle class white teen-agers.

The cynic in me thinks that anyone who would join the Army over a music school or crew when they hear music at a recruiting fair is a little funny.

What disgusts me is what I hear from friends who have enlisted. They tell me the education benefits that are touted by the recruiters are not what they receive.

The soldier loving Senate and Congress love to praise the solders but rarely follow through.

2. They are determined
The Army Recruiter had been calling our house about once a week - leaving messages, etc. for my daughter. I think they finally got the message she isn't interested. (Though she isn't an ethnic minority - I just thought I would mention it.)

Re: your message. It's ALL about marketing.

3. Recruiting techniques
This is just the usual bureaucratic nonsense. Some idiot somewhere thought it would be a good idea, and it went right down the line that way.

The military are only good at one thing: fighting. That's all.

4. Word from my friends
who are on recruiting duty:

Army/Marine reserve recruiting is down.
Regular Army recruiting is also down, while regular Marine recruiting is stable.

Navy reserve recruiting is up.
Regular Navy recruiting is stable.

Air Farce reserve recruiting is stable (always more applicants than billets there).
Regular Air Force recruiting is good.

Seems there are some people who have figured it out: Army/Marine reserves go to Iraq, Navy reserves go to San Diego/Norfolk...
(I'm not sure where Air Force reserves go; Disneyland?)

6. You shoulda seen the barage of crap they sent
to my exchange student "daughter" a couple of years ago. Assholes didn't even know or care that she isn't a citizen! The only other group who pursued her so thoroughly were the credit card companies.

7. Non-citizens can sign up.
Back in the Nam days, we had a bunch of Mexican and Canadian residents drafted because they had green cards, or their parents did.

I think they like non-citizens. Fewer benfits that way, and the parents of those dead GIs don't vote.
