CNN.com asked readers for their opinions on what needs to be achieved in Iraq before U.S. troops head home. Here are some of your responses:
In my opinion, now is the time for us to leave Iraq. They say that they want us out and I think a fair percentage of the people in this country say that we should leave. We went in there based upon obvious lies perpetrated upon both the English and American people. But the troops doing their job according to orders must be supported.
Richard Jensen, Terril, Iowa
The U.S. government needs to apologize to the world community for invading a country that posed no threat to our country; beg every other nation to help us in rebuilding Iraq; get our troops home before more are killed. This war has been a lie and a debacle from before it began. We can't get out whole, now. We can't win. We can only try to minimize the disaster.

Begin withdrawing troops after Christmas in stages...all troops should be home and Iraqi forces should have responsibility of their country by the end of 2006.

I remember a big giant banner supposedly made by the crew of a carrier: Mission Accomplished! Today I hear: "When we win the war," "victory must be assured," and all of these things that talk about the continued "war." What mission did we accomplish exactly? Get them home. Now.

Unless Bush is willing to send his two daughters to fight, we should pull out. Bush is the most hated man in the world and made the U.S. more of a target for terrorists. The money could then be used for national health care and Katrina. We need health insurance!
