Mr. (Jon) Stewart Comes to Washington "I Ended a Show on CNN"

<snip>

On Crossfire:

"Oh yeah, there's this funny story about this show I hated..."

"Long story short: I ended a program on CNN. And I learned that if you hate something, all you have to do is say so and it goes away."

"I had no idea that that was going to be what it was--even as I did it."

"I felt that Crossfire was the Mississippi of theatrical talking point shows...from which all other shitty shows flowed."

"It was in no way personal. I don't know Tucker, I don't pretend to know him. He just seemed like a dick that day."

4. Actually, now that he brings it up, Bushco has been on a decline
ever since "Crossfire" ended. Were they really on the forefront of the spin? Or does it all have to do with Novak, because once he was gone, CNN got a lot gutsier.

5. What a cocky thing to say
...and untrue. CNN had made it clear 6 months before Stewart's appearance that Crossfire was likely ending afer the 2004 election season. That show was clearly on life suport when Stewart appeared.

Has anyone else noticed Jon getting a little bit too full of himself since the set redesign? My wife, who is apolitical, used to love that shoe...now she can barely stand to watch it. I think it's because Stewart actually thinks he is some kind of newsman/journalist now, and not a satirist.

I don't know...I'm a religious Daily Show watcher, but something is seriously amiss over there lately.

7. yeah, most people understand I'm mocking Bush and many of his supporters,
...not making so much making a statement about myself.

9. From the transcript, it's clear he was kidding.
I do think he has some well-deserved pride in his work as a comic on a fake news show, however.

8. As I watched Tucker earlier, I was thinking of Jon's "bowtie" ...
... dig on Tucker. Just cut Tucker off at the knees!
