Cold War makes way for world peace

"There are fewer wars than there used to be, and they are becoming less deadly. The casualties from terrorist acts are minimal and don't warrant the current widespread concern, and acts of genocide are becoming less common.

These are the findings from a report into global trends in political violence, written by an Australian, Andrew Mack, who is director of the Vancouver-based Human Security Centre.

The report suggests that the end of the Cold War has brought more benefits than are commonly acknowledged. The number of severe conflicts those with more than 1000 casualties a year fell by 80 per cent during the 1990s.

The centre's report, War and Peace in the 21st Century, found that:

right, that's just going to make everything more peaceful.

2. I think the point is that with the excuse of "we have to fight communism"
gone - that conflicts are fewer & further between. Pehaps more democracy is taking place because neither the Soviets or the West or the Chinese are funding opposition groups with guns and the like.

I think that is the point.

I think it is pretty good news. If the nutty genocidal maniacs have less to play with in terms of geopolitical favour - the much better off we are.

Yes - the WH seemed very much to want to set "new precedent" for war and used Iraq.
