Molly Ivins: Government by temper tantrum
So here are all the liberals going into a giant snit just because George W. Bush appointed a veterinarian to head the women's health section of the Food and Drug Administration. For Pete's sake, you whiners, the only reason he chose the vet is because Michael Brown wasn't available.

If you recall, Ol' Heckuva-Job Brownie had to go home, walk his dog and then hug his wife after exhausting himself in his triumphal handling of Hurricane Katrina. Otherwise, he'd have been Bush's first pick.

Now, even the veterinarian doesn't get the job -- just because those professional feminists raised such a stink. What's wrong with a vet? They know a lot about birth and udders and stuff. If the mother is having trouble giving birth, you grab the baby by the legs and pull it out -- it's not brain surgery. Then you worm 'em, you tag 'em and you spray for fleas. Why the fuss?

The only reason Bush even needed a new head of the Office of Women's Health is because the last one, Susan Wood, quit. She was upset because the political hacks who run the agency refused to allow over-the-counter sale of the emergency contraceptive pill Plan B.

1. it just amazes me
these people wouldn't be happy without a scandal a day-it's really a pretty ingenuous tactic-don't let them focus on ONE disaster at a time make them re-think to ONE A DAY-that'll confuse 'em

2. I am also convinced that this is a purposeful strategy
Keep the left so pissed off with the outrage of the day, that they can't focus on any one of them. The left is reduced to BOOS(Bush Outraged Overload Syndrome).

5. It's the principle behind "blitzkreig"
they are recycling so many old methods, including "big lie" and "blitzkreig", why, it's as if they are following the original manual!

4. In another world, these would be considered scandals...but in
the alternate universe of Bush World, it shows how much * cares.

6. Maybe, they are running for cover and this is just a series of blasts
to cover their run. Either that or the figurative levees are breaking because of bad levee construction and too much pressure.

I read every thing I find by Molly Ivins. This piece is unique because it list some of the foxes guarding the hen houses. The issue before us is fascism and this piece list office after office that has been filled by industry for their benefit. The regulated have become the regulators.

For any Republican that is not of the brain-dead variety, this read would be an eye-opening experience. It also raises the question of why this is not in the news. It should show people that support * that they are coming to judgement without a proper education.

This is an exceptional piece and worth printing out if you could get a * supporter to read it. Actually, it was very informative to me and it should give almost all of us facts we do not know.

If communism is a government owning and controlling corporations and fascism is the corporations controlling government, any mention of communism in this country is beyond absurd. This article illustrates fascism and that is why it is exceptional.

Nominated.
