NYT: "Is He Winning? Taking Stock of the Forever War"
I have a feeling we may be hearing about this article, by Mark Danner of the Times, come Pulitzer Prize time:

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/09/11/magazine/11OSAMA.html

It's a comprehensive yet succinct summary of the international political landscape in the post-9/11 world. A spectacular piece of journalism, IMHO.

1. What an eye opener. I'd have responded sooner but I
had read the entire article.

3. Same here.
What a long read.

Our support for autocracies is the main reason I give for the WTC attacks when I debate a freeper.
It doesn't matter what markings are on that helicopter hovering over your neighborhood. All the people living under these regimes know who sold it to their government.

This administration's goal of staying in power and covering their asses at the expense of all else has left us few choices; all of them bad.

We need Al Gore more than ever because I don't see anyone on the horizon for '08 who has a better understanding of the complexities of this struggle.

5. A reference to Joe Haldeman's great novel
It's so nice when a journalist reads fine sf.
