Bush approval rating falls to new low
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9137364/

I thought this part of the article was really interesting.

<snip>
The survey also provided bad news for Democratic leaders, who are judged as offering Bush only tepid opposition. Slightly more than half of those surveyed expressed dissatisfaction with congressional Democrats for not opposing Bush more aggressively.

Self-identified Democrats were particularly impatient. More than three in four said congressional Democrats have not gone far enough to oppose Bush on Iraq or on administration policies in general.

"Somebody needs to speak up," said Michelle Burgess, 41, a home health aide in St. Louis. "Enough is enough. I don't understand why we're over there in Iraq or what he's doing on other issues. There are too many lives being lost."

Independents were similarly dissatisfied with Democratic leaders for not challenging the president over the war and other issues, with six in 10 saying Democrats have been too meek.

<snip>
Isn't this what a lot of us on DU have been saying for months now? That Dems need to be speaking up more!!!

Actually, I thought it was more than 12.5%. I suppose it depends on the criteria.

the stolen election of 2004. Dems are being wimpy. They look like they have no backbone.

Why are they not riding the peace train? Why are they not screaming about the money not going to fix the levees? Why are they letting the repukes roll over them?

I know they are a minority but they can still be a screaming, angry, "this corruption can't continue" minority. Instead we get Kerry conceding, and Lieberman kissing faces with George. I think the Dems have forgotten how to be an opposition party.

10. Cowardice or Strategy
I vote for strategy. At least, I hope it is strategy that is keeping the Democrats from speaking up.

For what it's worth, I think the Democrats' strategy may be to stay out of the way while his popularity is dropping. No urgency to step in at this point. The mid-terms are still over a year away. Let him self-destruct. He is doing a great job of that!

It will be interesting to see and hear what happens when Congress re-convenes.

I am very cautiously optimistic.

re: the majority of the assholes across the country who have now decided the dems aren't fighting hard enough against bush.

most of you are the same, the SAME people who made goddamned sure no democrat who *would* fight the president had a chance in hell of being elected.

fuck you. you elected the ineffectual assholes because you wanted them to be more like republicans. well here's your goddamned wakeup call. being more republican isn't being *moderate*. it's being a little more fucking fascist. period. i don't give a damned if you don't like that word. the word was first coined to describe a political movement which was almost EXACTLY like the republican base.

you came a little late to reality.
