NYT Editorial: ill-considered attempt to link war to 9/11
They just don't know when to stop lying, do they?

Walking the Wrong Way

Published: August 21, 2005
The Bush administration has announced plans for a Freedom Walk on Sept. 11, which will start at the Pentagon and end at the National Mall, and include a country music concert. The event is an ill-considered attempt to link the Iraq war to the terrorist attacks of 2001, and misguided in almost every conceivable way. It also badly misreads the public's mood. The American people are becoming increasingly skeptical about the war. They want answers to hard questions, not pageantry

It is perfectly appropriate for the Defense Department to organize a memorial for Americans who died on Sept. 11, since many were Pentagon employees. It is also fine to pay tribute to the sacrifices being made by the troops in Iraq. What is disturbing is the Bush administration's insistence on combining the two in a politically loaded day of marching and entertainment.

Having failed to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, the administration has been eager to repackage the war as a response to Sept. 11. The Freedom Walk appears to be devised to impress this false connection on the popular imagination.

2. It's always been about 911
according to Bushco but now they're repackaging it to be a "global struggle against extremists."

3. Who's more at fault?
Bush for being a liar, or a group of Republican constituents who continually want to be lied to in order to support their belief systems?

You can't hardly blame Bush. This worked for Reagan, quite well.

6. Actually, I believe the corpwhorate media
is more to blame, they have brainwashed a sizable segment of the American People and enabled Bush to power in the first place. The Press enshrined in our Constitution have abandoned their responsibility to enlighten and inform the people, and instead have taken up the call to slander our true leaders, obfuscate and deny information, all in servitude to their corporate masters.

4. so what kind of protests
are being planned?

Don't want to "add to the numbers" by going, but what can be done to show this LIE for what it is?

(As for Clint Black - I've always LOATHED country music anyway.) It's obvious why they picked country music anyway. It's a wonder that they don't figure out how to have a Nascar race on the Mall.

5. country music
By including only that particular genre of music, * makes it completely clear which type of American this event is meant for. A sincere ceremony would include a variety of genres, but nobody's ever accused * of being sincere.
