If you thought the last U.N. debate over Iraq was ugly
Europe: Here We Go Again

If you thought the last U.N. debate over Iraq was ugly, brace yourself. The next one could be even worse

By Stryker McGuire and Richard Wolffe
NEWSWEEK INTERNATIONAL

Sept. 22 issue Another Iraq resolution, another go-round at the U.N. Security Council. Surely it couldnt be as bad as the last time, when those warmongering Americans and Brits slapped down the Franco-German axis of weasels and invadedright on schedule. The war was won, Iraq was liberated. True, theres the matter of the missing WMD, not to mention a spot of bother on the postwar road to peace and reconstruction. Now come the Americans, hat in hand, asking the United Nations for a little help. Surely, well all be spared the rancor and recrimination of last winter, wont we?

NOT A CHANCE.

1. Where would we be without Chirac?
he's got it right - what the 'coalition' calls terrorism is in fact
resistance. I hope the French don't give in.

2. Bush and Iraq
Have these idiots no shame? Apparently not. Powell says we are the ones who took over the country. So true. The French said to continue the inspections. So these cretins are going to isolate France by bribery. We are also the ones that the Iraqis now hate, that killed over 37000 me3n women and children, that doesn't want to pay for our own destruction, that cannot get the lights on or the water, that is paying Haliburton through the nose, but our troops are rationed on water in 125 heat. This is so mortifying. If this country elects Bush again the whole world will desert us. They now assume that we don't like him and his policies either.

3. U.N. More Respected Than U.S.
Why on earth should the U.N. agree to pull the U.S. through this?

They can go in with humanitarian aid any time they want, I would think. That's what they should do, whether the U.S. wants them in there or not. Certainly no U.N. personnel should have to answer to the U.S., but what's stopping them from helping in the hospitals, and with distribution of food and water and finding homes for people who need them?

I think the Iraqi people will soon enough be able to see who is helping them and who is just interested in occupying their nation.

4. This is interesting
Wonder if it has anything to do with Poppies visit to Russia. Did we buy off Russia??
snip "Indeed, for the Bushies that seems to be the game. The Russians have separated themselves from the French and the Germans, notes one State Department official, adding that the Germans also seem to showing a bit of distance from their French partners,"

or is it all wishful thinking. I still maintain noone is going to send troops without getting something in return. Sentiment has not changed among their voters.
