Finally, Politics with Soul: Kucinich Lights Up Presidential Race
http://www.awarenessmag.com/sepoct3.html/so3_finally_politics_with.html

<edit>

And peace comes not so much as an end in itself, but as a byproduct of balancing these elements. Kucinich invites Uncle Sam to dance the waltz of wholeness with Lady Liberty, the ambassador of the eternal feminine, and Jung’s anima.

“There is a sculpture carved inside the pediment atop the marble columns at the entrance to the United States House of Representatives,” Kucinich says. “ It depicts a woman, arm outstretched, protecting a child who is blissfully sitting atop a stack of books. Entitled ‘Peace Protecting Genius,’ this patroness of peace protects the child from harm not with nuclear arms, but with nurturing arms, with arms of maternal love. That sculpture will be emblematic of my administration.”

And Kucinich vows that his first priority will be to address the Weapons of Mass Destruction that run rampant in our own homeland. Poverty. Unemployment. Inadequate health care. A toxic environment. Poor education. Racism. Sexism. The insidious weapons that can destroy a society from the inside out.

Fixing broken stuff at home is never as glamorous as waging war. But Dennis promises to “move forward with the intention of binding the wounds of this nation.” And he has a plan.

1. Who wrote this? Lawrence Ferlinghetti?

"Kucinich invites Uncle Sam to dance the waltz of wholeness with Lady Liberty, the ambassador of the eternal feminine, and Jung’s anima." Somebody call an editor, quick! Sheesh!

3. Ferlinghetti: Constantly Risking Absurdity
Strangely enough, Kucinich carries a quote from Unamuno in his wallet: "Only he who attempts the absurd is capable of achieving the impossible." The poet as politician. We could do a lot worse.

http://www.rooknet.com/beatpage/writers/ferlinghetti.html

Constantly Risking Absurdity

Constantly risking absurdity
and death
whenever he performs
above the heads
of his audience
the poet like an acrobat
climbs on rime
to a high wire of his own making
and balancing on eyebeams
above a sea of faces
paces his way
to the other side of the day
performing entrachats
and sleight-of-foot tricks
and other high theatrics
and all without mistaking
any thing
for what it may not be
For he's the super realist
who must perforce perceive
taut truth
before the taking of each stance or step
in his supposed advance
toward that still higher perch
where Beauty stands and waits
with gravity
to start her death-defying leap
And he
a little charleychaplin man
who may or may not catch
her fair eternal form
spreadeagled in the empty air
of existence

4. for someone who thinks DK is " very unstable" and unhinged ...
... I suppose shooting the messenger of Dennis's message isn't too bad ... but, still unnecessary post just the same ...

5. I was merely commenting on the messenger's style... not the message per se
Purple prose has a place, to be sure. But it's debatable as to whether or not that place is in political discourse. Personally, I found it embarrassing.

6. Just in case anyone is debating reading the entire article,
there's only one paragraph (that I remember) of purple prose and given the rarity of a politican advocating the protection of children with nurturing, maternal arms, not nuclear arms, one can hardly blame the writer for getting a little carried away.

Shucks. Maybe I should have excerpted the Seabiscuit analogy instead.

7. Sorry, it was a knee-jerk reaction.
As a writer, I guess stuff such as that really leaps out at me--especially when it's in the context of a political profile. It just seemed odd, that's all.

2. Dennis has soul
ironic that in my Senior government class in 1968, for our mock election, those for Bobby Kennedy, we used the theme: RFK has Soul

"Finally, Politics with Soul"

we need Dennis to help lead us back on the right path ... without any corporate kowtowing, etc., which is a major influence pushing and taking our Ship of State off course

- people before profits -
