Youths Protest In Kano Over American President's Visit - Nigeria

MEMBERS of the Shite Islamic sect yesterday staged a peaceful protest in Kano to register their opposition to the visit of the United State's president George W. Bush to the country.

The protest which took place after the Jumat prayer came hours after another, allegedly organised by Buhari organisation during which no fewer than 26 youths were arrested by the police.

Members of the sect, led by their leader Sheik Mohammed Turi marched through the roads linking Fagge, Kanti kwari, and the Murtala Mohammed Hospital in the heart of Kano metropolis to register their disgust with the visit of Bush.

No violence took place as the group whose national leader is Sheik Ibrahim Zakzaky was put under surveillance by a large number of anti-riot policemen.
