Three losing candidates have asked for a recount of the votes in their
General Election races on November 2.

Asking for recounts are State Senate candidate Mike Ross, Morgan
County Circuit Clerk candidate Linda Barker, and Magistrate candidate
Debbie Ditto. All are Democrats.

County officials said one of the questions that’s been raised is
whether the votes were counted properly in cases where a voter marked
a straight party ticket at the top of the ballot and later voted for a
candidate of the other party.

County officials said one of the questions that’s been raised is whether the votes were counted properly in cases where a voter marked a straight party ticket at the top of the ballot and later voted for a candidate of the other party.

For example, perhaps a voter put an “x” in the circle for a straight Democratic Party ticket and then voted for George W. Bush, a Republican, for president.

Edited to add: Do you live in WV? In Morgan County? Electionline.org shows they use paper ballots (which isn't clear from the story). Can you confirm?
