Sources: Ridge plans to leave post
(I know, sort of a dupe. But the other subject line was Tom Ridge has just resigned. Didn't want to keep kicking that.)

"WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge plans to leave his post, according to senior administration sources, although no one will officially confirm his intention to depart.

"In July there were reports Ridge told colleagues he was considering stepping down after the November election because of job stresses and the need to earn money in the private sector to pay his children's college costs."

So, Ridge makes $175,000 a year, and he can't afford to send his kids to college?? Yikes. Does he spend a lot of time with Wild Bill Bennett or something?

1. He knows when to cut and run. Let somebody else take the fall
for our incompetent attempts at homeland "security".

4. Think we're due for another big attack?
They can always blame it on the grand opening of the clinton library.

6. Hard to say, but I know that we're vulnerable.
It's an open secret that we've done relatively little to really improve security. And there's only so much that could ever be done, given a country of our size, and enormous borders.

3. Tell him he has the green light to go.
He should have supported Kerry since his tax bracket was in the clear and tuition assistance would have been available.

5. I sure could use his $175,000 a year
since I'm not making anything, cause I can't get a job, poor pitiful Ridge.

7. Guess he got the memo...
If the WH leaked his resignation to force him out, I hope he leaves pissed off enough to head straght to a book publisher. I have no love to Ridge and only the most fleeting respect for Powell, but the way the Bushies* have handled all this is despiccable.
