Iraq Officials Fire Thousands of Policemen
Iraqi authorities have fired thousands of police officers and taken over the recruiting of new policemen, the Washington Times reported Sunday.

"Most of the screening as far as the staff is up to the Iraqi staff now," said U.S. Army Capt. Kevin Bradley, who trains Iraqi national guardsmen. "Right now, whether or not the person is clean, it depends on the Iraqis."

The Times said the police officers trained and hired by the United States are believed to have been enemy informants and sympathizers who undermined numerous operations and tipped off terrorists.

4. WTF does this quote mean?
"The Iraqis have their own methods of recruiting police officers that might fall short of U.S. civil rights standards, but they are proving effective," according to Bradley.

5. Why, that's the new Bush Doctrine of Preemptive Treason!
By footing the bill, we are giving comfort and aid to future enemies of the American State. We are building a new brutal regime. The doctrine isn't so new really, more like habitual, but it is more publicized this time.

Oh, and we surrendered. Just laid down and hollered uncle on the whole quaint, passe` idea of exporting our old values; human, civil, women's and labor rights. And democracy.

11. WTF indeed
Recruiting someone for a job might somehow violate their civil rights? That sounds screwed up.

What are they doing? Going out and forcing men to involuntarily serve as policemen?

Looters go on rampage in Mosul
From correspondents in Mosul, Iraq
November 14, 2004

LOOTERS rampaged through a palace in Iraq's third city
of Mosul today that had been used by a foreign company,
after the staff left at dawn, an AFP correspondent
witnessed.

Cars and trucks crammed with people swarmed to the palace
in the north of the city, where they were seen making off
with food, equipment, clothes and even a
mattress.

The scenes were reminiscent of a frenzy of looting that
swept through cities across Iraq following last year's US-
led invasion.

People in the smart Millain neighbourhood, seeing
cars speeding towards the palace, also rushed over to
pick through the contents.

The contractors who used the palace that once belonged to
a half-brother of toppled president Saddam Hussein left after
it became the target of heavy fire overnight.

Lawlessness simmered in the rest of Mosul, where
gunmen held key buildings, such as the provincial
governor's office, and patrolled the streets in cars in the
absence of Iraqi police or national guardsmen.

The militants instructed residents to go about their lives
as normal as they were doing the job of the security
forces.

Despite that, few people dared to venture out onto the
streets and most shops remained closed in this city of
more than 1 million people.

Again, the assumption is that resistance to foreign
occupation can only come from foreign militants. Moreover,
on what does Huggler base his claim that Zarqawi is a
leader? The only evidence we have are some fuzzy videos
and endless claims by the US and the British. It is just as
likely, based on the complete lack of concrete evidence
that al-Zarqawi' is a Western invention if not an actual
asset
