Guard Shoots Student in Foot at La. School

EW ORLEANS - A security guard shot a teenager in the foot at a New Orleans high school Friday, believing he was reaching for a weapon during a confrontation.

Tomika Thomas told police she smelled marijuana when she spotted the 16-year-old boy standing alone under a tree outside Booker T. Washington High School when other students were in class or the cafeteria.

Thomas said she approached the student and tried to detain him, but he became aggressive, pushed her, then reached under his shirt.

"She thought he was reaching for a weapon. She drew and fired one time, striking him in the foot," Sgt. Paul Accardo said.

Police found no drugs or weapons on the boy, who ran away after being shot and was caught by a second security guard.

Something doesn't add up here and I hope this fucking N.O. Police "rent-a-cop" gets fired and jail time for shooting an innocent student.

Why LA tax dollars are supporting this are beyond me.

8. As a person who went through the public school system

in New Orleans, I can't automatically fault the guard. I spent a year at O. Perry Walker in New Orleans...comparable to Booker T. Students killed two people that year, and I personally witnessed another beating the shit out of a teacher.

"No child left behind" has done a ton of good in New Orleans, no doubt.
