Laura Bush hopes to visit Iraq, Afghanistan
First lady Laura Bush said Thursday it is difficult to hear reports of soldiers' deaths in the ongoing war on terrorism and would like to travel to Iraq and Afghanistan.

"I hope I have a chance to travel to Afghanistan and Iraq," she said.

After speaking to children at an elementary school, Bush told reporters it was important to see Afghan children going back to class after the Taliban's rule ended.

1. Send her now with an 80 lb pack,
a few MRE's and a three liters of water. Let her stand post for a few days in 120 degree heat at a prison, then try to swim to safety when her vehicle overturns in a river.

Does she really think that going is make us think AWOL cares?

2. I'm sure it will be an interesting contrast to Hillary's travels.
Instead of thousands of women traveling long distances to see her, the ones she happens to encounter will probably be murmering, "What the f--- is that bitch doing here?"

3. another GOP non sequitur
... it is difficult to hear reports of soldiers' deaths in the ongoing war on terrorism and would like to travel to Iraq and Afghanistan.

So why go there? To see them?

I think a photo opportunity about how safe Afghanistan and Iraq are is in the making.

Are they really this crazy?

Cher

on criticism of bush* and his evil men. No one dare to criticize The First Lady, it just wouldn't be right.

And when she goes to Afghanistan, will she hold the babies who are dying of hunger and promise them our undying support and love. But if you expect anymore money from us, forget it.

5. Taliban rule "ended"? Or just temporarily "suspended"?
With her husband's geo-political ADD, I'm betting the latter.

And does this emphasize even more the chicken-shit cowardice of Smirky? His wife at least SAYS she wants to go Iraq and Afghanistan.
He won't (or can't) even do THAT much. :grr:

9. SUSPENDED --- THE MAYOR OF KABUL PUTTING PLACE BACK IN ORDER
Luckily he is "PROTECTED" by a highly paid force of hundreds of civilian (read) EX-Army Rangers, Special Forces and other Mercenaries paid for by the U. S. taxpayers.

All under the auspices of the State Department, run by EX-War hero Colon Bowel.

6. She must not read the paper.
Edited on Thu Sep-04-03 12:04 PM by Ripley
Yesterday my little ole paper had an AP article about the Taliban. They started off the article with "The Taliban and al qaida are not on the run anymore." They interviewed the Taliban and they said the Afghanies were sick and tired of the looting and danger and were welcoming the Taliban back. They are also burning schools down.

She and her husband will NEVER get to step one foot in that country. The security risk to everyone around them would be too great.

edit: typo

how about if Jenna and Barbara enlist in the army and visit Iraq and Afghanistan too. Then maybe Daddy might begin to care about the casualties there. Bring 'em on!

WTF is stopping her? I'm sure that if she made up her mind to go somewhere, there would be nothing or no one that could stop her. On the other hand she probably still hasn't finished sweeping the front porch.

26. Why wouldn't she have a chance to go to Iraq?
What's stopping her?
Could it be the nonexistent security situation?
They would have to bus the children into the United States compound anyway for the photo shoot. If she tried to go out into the city, she probably would get shot at by guns instead of cameras.
I can just see it now: First Lady Assassinated by Iraqi Terrorists! Pentagon Request Emergency Appropriation to Double Troops.

27. Junior's sending her to drive a car to run over and kill the Iraqis.
Junior's hoping this fear will put stop the guerilla/citizen attacks.

Laura Bush, wife of GOP presidential candidate George W. Bush, on Thursday recalled the pain of a 1963 accident that killed her boyfriend, saying "it was crushing."
