Marines revved up, but on hold, at Fallujah
The Associated Press
Updated: 4:40 p.m. ET Nov. 4, 2004NEAR FALLUJAH, Iraq - With weapons drawn, U.S. Marines dove through blown-out windows of an abandoned building near the insurgent stronghold Fallujah, searching for gunmen.

This time it was training. Soon, it may be for real, as Marines prepare for a showdown against Sunni Muslim fighters in Fallujah, the focus of Iraqi resistance.

“I know this is the video game generation,” a Marine instructor bellowed at troops during urban warfare drills. “And what you see when you’re playing ‘Medal of Honor.’ well, the same thing you see there is what will keep you alive outside.”

U.S. commanders who hope to quell Iraq’s insurgency before nationwide elections in January say Fallujah has become a main planning and staging center for violence and needs to be brought under control. But they also stress the order to attack must come from Iraq’s interim Prime Minister Ayad Allawi.

Since Marines aborted an April attack on Fallujah amid widespread Iraqi dismay over reports of civilian casualties, the insurgents have been bombing U.S. convoys and hitting their bases daily with mortar and rocket fire.

Dear God we have to stop this.

5. Yeah, ALL of them are listening to that
because one tank interviewed was listening to it.

Yes the comm systems on vehicles can be rigged, I've done it, but I'm also confident that the Marines have gained much more respect for the type of fighting they're heading into. It's one thing to listen to some tunes while you pick off enemy tanks while you're still a mile outside their range and you know it, and going house to house with nothing but the body armor built by the lowest bidder covering your organs.

3. Some Marines are going to find out why they call it
the Medal of Honor. Most of them are just gonna end up fucked in the head. Some of them are going to end up in two places at once. A few of them will just end.

What they deserve is to be pulled out and brought home where they belong.

This is being done in our name. God help us all.

I've never been so sick in all my life. A video game, kill them all attitude prevails. I'm so sorry.

22. It was always so
The decent Middle Americans who thought it right and proper to incinerate Hiroshima and nagasaki would rather it be the innocent Iraqis than our Imperial Corporate Storm Troopers.

7. We can't
we tried. But our "I'll give him a chance to clean it up.", homophobic, no respect for seperation of church and state neighbors gave him the okay.

I have to shake my head. Earlier today, an elderly neighbor of mine, that still had a Bush/Cheney sign in her yard ($%!!), came over to me saying, "That Bush! First thing he does is try to privatize Soc. Security. What is wrong with him?"

I just looked at her and said, "That's just the start. Wait till you see what he does in the next six months. And you know what? You are partly responsible. So as our soldiers die and our country goes bankrupt - please remember who you voted for."

She looked stunned. She tried to mutter something but I just waved my hand and walked away. She wasn't able to look me in the eye this afternoon when I got off work. She must of took her Bush/Cheney sign down sometime this afternoon because it wasn't up when I got home.

Every freeper co-worker of mine is going to get the sh** kicked out of them every time Bush f**ks up. I'm going to be busy the next four years .... One of my "Kerry will take my guns away" co-workers also tried to engage me in conversation this afternoon. Told me "Yah I voted for him, but I didn't really like him." I shrugged and said "That just means your spineless. You supported him - now you have to take responsibility for it. And if he does a good job, you can celebrate and gloat. And if he screws up - it's also on you."
He didn't look happy.

It is our responsibility. What, are we all just going to roll over, play dead and say there was nothing we could do? SHAME UPON US ALL!

14. No you haven't
Oooh you voted. Wow - you tried so hard to stop this. Did you protest too?

Sorry that isn't enough. Do not give up and say you are free of responsibility. To do so means you are saying that you don't care that people are being slaughtered. Slaughtered by citizens of your country.

Thomas Jefferson wouldn't take this crap.

George Washington damn sure wouldn't take this.

It is events like this which founded our nation.

Let's talk massive strikes, or , maybe - let's talk about seceding.

I am burnt out and I need some "rest". I am going away from politics. I have chose not to listen to the mass media and only read on DU and listen to AAR. Perhaps when I get my second wind, I will be back. Till then I wish all my anti-war friends the best.

24. "Let's talk"
Yeah, see how much good that will do. Nothing could stop the Vietnam slaughter until the casualties mounted too high and the Army was stalemated. They did everything they could stateside to change things. Jane Fonda even expressed support for Ho, and got demonized for life. I think the only way to wash one's hands of this is to leave. I've already cut my driving to a minimum. We could lie in front of a munitions train like one Viet Vet when Bu$hwar II started..and got run over. We could break into bases at night and pour blood on missiles like phillip Barrigan. Brave, but nothing changed. The troops didn't appreciate it, and they don't like it now. The people don't care until it affects them and they can still gas up their SUV. Just how far are you willing to go? There are those who have power and influence...perhaps some decent officers. They have to be the ones, as they tried, and almost succeeded, in Nazi Germany. Hell, it wouldn't be impossible for the troops to mutiny. From here, we can do nothing. The Iraqis blame us by now, anyway, since "we" re-elected WarChimp.

16. Neat Shift
Last I heard it was some guy from Jordan that was the bad guy. The head cheese even stopped talks because the town wouldn't turn him over. Now it is Sunni Muslim. What is the key word here. Sunni or Muslim.
Bye the bye, do they happen to also be Iraqi?

17. The Holy States of America is perfecting its troop in Fallujah
so that they can go into Iran. Doesn't everyone see this?

The reason we're going to have a draft is because the casualty rate is going to skyrocket in a very short time.

As HS citizens, there is nothing you can do but volunteer for the army.

You can't stop this. It is funded with trillions of dollars. It is supported by the Holy States, Russia, Japan, Australia, Great Britain. Only a change of leadership would stop it, and you will never again have a real vote because of paperless voting.

I suggest you all stop getting so worked up about this and just pretend you're reading a history book instead of the news. It may be surprising and depressing, but it's just history. Countries rise and fall. Rulers rise and fall. Religion rises and falls.

Welcome to the rise of the Holy States of America.

25. I see it....
I tried to stop it and failed. I can't even read about it anymore it disgusts me so. When the draft starts and the bushbots start freaking out because it is their kids going off to an illegal war I will show them no compassion. They asked for it they need to suck it up and take it. Holy States of MuriKa indeed....

26. Most disturbing quote

"This is the most important thing of my generation and I’m part of it. I can already see the pages in the history books," said Lance Cpl. Mike Detmer, 25, of Lynchburg, Va.

Wonder if he ever had a history book in front of him.

Those pages won't look pretty Mike. I sincerely hope that you'll live to see them for real. At least that much you will have learned by then. But at what cost?
