11. Because Israeli intelligence always tells the truth.
They may be right this time, but saying you believe it because they said it is about as realistic as believing something because Karl Rove said it.

6. wow.
When I read that he was poisoned, I thought he was a goner.

Now, with him gone, will there be bloodshed and battles internally? or will they take a step back to the prior agreements?

an opportunity, or a disaster. Both equally likely.

There really isn't much downside to this. Dude needs to die for anything to change, and croaking from natural causes will keep the revenge factor out.

26. It will be as helpful as the capture of Saddam Hussein
Yeah -- Condi said the "insurgency" was nothing but Saddam loyalists.

The Americans killed his sons just like the Bolsheviks killed the Romanovs -- to destroy the line.

Then, when Saddam was captured, Iraq exploded into even greater violence, and were not ready to kiss the hands of George Bush and Tony Blair and thank them for the invasion.

I guess it must be fun to have the temporary peace of mind that all will be well in Israel/Palestine when Arafat, in your words, "croaks." I guess the meme is that the Palestinians have been waiting for a leader who will have the wisdom to understand the Israelis want the very best for them.

But before you celebrate the old "Dude's" "croaking" -- you might just want to consider the possibiity that things are going to get a lot worse when Arafat dies, and your idea that they will be kissing Sharon's hand and leaving their homes as beggars to the people God himself gave the land to might very well be wishful thinking.

Of course, this is what the Israelis and NeoConservatives have been rubbing their hands in glee about for years now -- a reason to "crack down" on these "terrorists", who hate freedom and democracy presumably, and obliterate them.

Anyway -- have fun and enjoy yourself.

30. Yikes
"your idea that they will be kissing Sharon's hand and
leaving their homes as beggars to the people God himself gave
the land to might very well be wishful thinking."

Did I say all that? I don't think so. The point is that
Arafat is not doing anyone any good, and no one is going to
come forward to lead the Palestinians to statehood while he's
alive. He would never accept any proposal but the return of
his people to Palestine and the end of Israel. Not too
reality based.

28. Palestinian Leader Yasser Arafat Dies - Deutsche Welle story link
Palestinian Leader Yasser Arafat Dies

Yasser Arafat has died at the age of 75 after failing to be revived from the coma he slipped into on Wednesday at the French military hospital where he was being treated for an undiagnosed blood and digestive disorder.

Yasser Arafat, the 75 year-old Palestinian leader, has died in the intensive care department of the French military hospital where he was being treated for an unknown illness.

The frail head of the Palestinian Authority arrived in Paris last week after losing consciousness briefly at his West Bank headquarters. Arafat was at first said to have been suffering from a severe case of influenza, but was later diagnosed as having blood abnormalities and trouble with digestion.

Palestinian officials then ran tests for leukemia but the cancer was ruled out, and doctors remained uncertain what was causing his illness. Arafat's condition worsened three days ago and he slipped into a coma on Wednesday.
